Texas State vs Southern Arkansas Postgame Quotes

9-11-10

Opening Statement

Head Coach Brad Wright

“We can’t have the type of game we had tonight; which was full of special teams problems, miscues, and having to come back and win. We have to come out hard and strong from the beginning. If you look under the dictionary for ugly wins, this one will be added to it. But it is a lot better of a feeling than we had last week.”

Was it two different teams played by your guys in terms of the two halves?

“We came out and stumbled through it and didn’t look very sharp. It was one of those situations where we give credit to the players for stepping up and doing what they had to do.”

What do you attribute the slow start to?

“I can’t explain the slow start. I could hardly wait to get back on the field. Sometimes there’s something bad about talking to kids about playing a team that’s at a different level.”

What about number 11 at quarterback? Is it going to be Tyler from here on?

“We went with the guy that we thought had the hot hand, and I think Tyler was the guy with the hot hand tonight. We need to make sure that we’re not in this predicament where someone gets hurt and we need somebody that can play. We need to make sure we have guys that have experience in game time situations. Tim Hawkins is a heck of an athlete, I think even Tyler (Arndt) will tell you that. Right now Tyler is the guy that’s getting us down field and getting us into the endzone.”

Tyler Arndt-

Tyler what was going on in your mind when they took the lead?

“You have to keep your cool out there, and I think we did that. It was a lot easier. It was easy to get into a rhythm tonight. On the touchdown, Da’Marcus (Griggs) made a good move on the post corner. This week has been about getting more familiar with the receivers and working with the ones.”

The plays Da’Marcus was making were stabilizing for the offense, can you talk more about what you were seeing out there?

“Da’Marcus is good no matter what down it is. Whenever we need a big play, we look for him. He runs good routes and we were lucky enough to have enough time to get him the ball.”

Da’ Marcus Griggs-

Did you feel that the momentum changed when you reeled in the touchdown before halftime?

“That touchdown going into half was a momentum changer. We didn’t go into halftime 17-10 because of it. Tyler made a great throw and I just came down with it.”

Brian Lilly-

On recording his third straight game with an interception…

“I was just trying to make a play like I do every time we’re out there. It felt like we picked up some confidence towards the later part of the game and we kept that momentum up throughout the rest of the game.”

“It makes it easier for us on the backend when the front four are getting pressure. When they’re getting sacks all day, we don’t have to cover. They did a great job tonight.”

Karrington Bush

On 79-yard touchdown run…

I haven’t had a run like that in awhile, so it felt really good. When I went through the hole it was kind of cloudy, but I went to the outside and broke a few tackles I saw that I was by myself. It gave me a little confidence going into next week and I just hope that I can get a few more runs like that, and we can get some more wins.
