Head coach Brad Wright opening statement:
It seems like we played well enough on defense to win the game but we didn’t do our share on offense and that’s the bottom line. We got manhandled offensively there’s no other way to put it.
Questions for Coach Wright:
Where did the manhandling start?
I’m sure it was the entire game. I can’t remember moving the ball consistently throughout the game.
Earlier in the week you mentioned teams would have to make the freshman quarterback beat you; can you talk about it?
It wasn’t as good as it was last week. There were lots of yards but no points. They shut us down.
What’s Tyler’s status with his leg?
We don’t know. That’s where he is right now.
What is it going to take to get the rushing game back on track?
We have to get better obviously. Those guys were lining up and making us throw the ball because they had everyone on the line of scrimmage. It’s hard the run that way. We had to throw it to open up the run but we couldn’t throw it. It makes it tough.
Did the game come down to the play of their defensive backs?
They played well and they got pressure on the quarterback. He took some sacks that he probably shouldn’t have; he probably should’ve gotten rid of the ball sooner.
Can you talk about the play of the lines?
Both the offensive and defensive lines are about winning the line of scrimmage. Prestin (Brown) was only supposed to get a few snaps a game but he’s ended up starting. But they’re playing their tails off and when they learn to do what they’re supposed to be doing they’re going to be good; and that’s the good news. Like I said, defensively, they played their tails off.
Can you talk about the play of the younger players?
These guys are going to get better as they go. Them being freshmen is going to show up from time to time on the field but they have three more years after this one. They’re going to be a good group. They’re getting experience under fire right now and they’re doing a heck of a job.
Questions for D.J. Hall:
How did they get their game going?
They had a lot of people in the box. There were breakdowns on the line but mostly everywhere. We just have to go out there and keep getting better. We can’t get down on ourselves.
Questions for Prestin Brown:
What did you see on the goal line stand?
I saw the center was kind of leaning and I had a feeling the ball was going to go that way. I knew they wanted it and I didn’t want to give it to them. I felt like there was a wall behind me because I knew the goal line was right there so I put in everything I had.
Was it frustrating to see how the other side of the ball was playing?
In my mind the whole game I believed that we were going to do something. I told myself the offense was going to do it.
