• Texas State enters its first season as a member of the Pac-12 Conference after spending the past 13 seasons as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. During that span, TXST was the top-performing athletics department six times, including the last 3 consecutive seasons.
• Texas State is coming off its third consecutive bowl win with a 41-10 victory over Rice in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, this came after back-to-back wins in the First Responder Bowl over North Texas (2024) and Rice (2023).
• New Faces: Head Coach GJ Kinne welcomed 4 news faces to the Bobcat coaching staff this past offseason, including Defensive Coordinator Will Windham as well as Chris Gistorb (Defensive Line) and Marcus Patton (Secondary). On offense, Kiel McDonald takes over for TXST-great Barrick Nealy.
• Texas State won 7 games in 2025, the third straight season with 7+. Last time it happened: 1982-1984 (14-0, 9-3, 7-4).
• TXST head coach GJ Kinne faces the school that gave him his first head coaching job in Saturday's match-up. Kinne led UIW to a 12-2 record and an appearance in the FCS Semifinals in 2022. 
• GJ Kinne has named the following captains for the 2026 season: Brad Jackson, Beau Sparks, Chris Dawn, Jr., Sully Burns, Ryan Nolan, Terrence Cooks II, Phillip Bradford & Jo'Laison Landry.
• Flex: The Bobcats currently have 11 games on the schedule for 2026, with the final week serving as a non-conference, Pac-12 flex game. Opponents will be determined 6 days out from game day, with TXST scheduled for a road game.

Last Time Versus...
SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State held a fourth-quarter lead but could not hold off UIW, falling 42-34 to the Cardinals on Sept. 18, 2021.

The Bobcats took a 31-28 advantage with 11:17 remaining when Brady McBride connected with Marcell Barbee for a four-yard touchdown, capping a 14-play, 65-yard drive.

UIW answered with two touchdowns in the final seven minutes. Cameron Ward found Darion Chafin for an eight-yard score with 7:07 remaining before connecting with Taylor Grimes for a one-yard touchdown with 2:48 left to give the Cardinals a 42-31 lead.

Texas State continued to battle, driving 55 yards on its final possession before Seth Keller converted a 37-yard field goal with 58 seconds remaining. UIW recovered the ensuing onside kick to secure the victory.

McBride completed 25-of-41 passes for 278 yards and two touchdowns, while Calvin Hill led the Bobcats with 78 rushing yards. Jahmyl Jeter added 46 yards and two rushing touchdowns, and Barbee finished with five receptions for 54 yards and two scores.

SAME BOBCATS, NEW CONFERENCE
Texas State University officially joined the Pac-12 Conference, a transformative milestone in the university's athletic and academic journey, on July 1, 2026. Of its seven new football conference mates, TXST has only faced Utah State. The lone match-up took place Nov. 3, 2012 with Utah State winning 38-7 in Logan.

GJ Kinne is in his 4th year at the helm of the Bobcat roster after making his head coaching debut at UIW in 2022. Four years later, Kinne's staff still includes five members from his 1st season - Jordan Shoemaker, Will Bryant, Matthew Gregg, Bret Huth and Clark Eyers. In 2023, nine players followed Kinne to San Marcos, including current Stars coach Shawn Holton.
