Bobcats Drop Series Finale vs Southern Miss

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball suffered a 2-1 loss in the Sunday finale of its Southern Miss series after a two-run homer in the second inning gave them their lone runs of the game.

Despite Maddy Azua only allowing two runs and five hits in the circle, Texas State was unable to find runs offensively.

How it Happened:
Azua started her night with a three up, three down inning including a strike out. Unfortunately, Texas State did the same in the bottom half of the inning.

Southern Miss was able to get a base runner in the second on a single to right field. She'd go on to score when Abbi Troquille homer3ed to left field. That one swing of the bat was the lone run scorer of the night for Southern Miss.

Texas State continued to put runners on base throughout the middle innings, but were unable to score until the bottom of the 5th. Ultimately, the lone run of the night for Texas State came off Sami Hood's bat for her 4thhome run of the season.

Texas State was able to put two runners on in the 6th and 7th innings but left them stranded. In the end, Southern Miss was able to hold on to the two run lead for five innings for the win.

After today's 2-1 loss, Texas State is now 31-17 on the season and move to 11-7 in Sun Belt play.
