Softball Wins vs Tarleton State, #15 Texas A&M

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State Softball finished the San Marcos Showdown with wins versus Tarleton State and #15 Texas A&M.

The first win against the Texans came in opposite fashion of the previous meeting between the two teams. An eight-run 6th inning spearheaded by Chesney Davis led the Bobcats to an 8-2 win. The team then carried the momentum to a 3-1 win against Texas A&M for its second win against a top 25 program on the season.

How it Happened:
TXST 8, Tarleton State 2
Maddy Azua started in the circle for the Bobcats, tossing the complete game and allowing just three hits and two earned runs, striking out 11 batters in the process. She started that outing off with a strikeout against the Texans' leadoff. She added two more  in both the second and third innings.

The Texans took their lone lead in the 4th inning on a 2 RBI homer up the middle. From there, the Texans didn't record another hit.

All eight of Texas State's runs came in the 6th inning, beginning with a walk for Karmyn Bass. She advanced to second on an Aiyana Coleman single. Bass scored on Harley Vestal's single.

The Texans opted for a pitching change, then walked Sami Hood to load the bases. Chesney Davis would hit the go-ahead run with a 2 RBI single to give the Bobcats a 3-2 lead.

The Bobcats' didn't stop scoring there, though, adding another on a Keely Williams RBI single before Kate Bubela hit her 5th home run of the season for 3 RBI to make it an 8-2 game.

Azua retired the Texans in order with two strikeouts to end the game and give Texas State an 8-2 win.

TXST 3, #14 Texas A&M 1
Emma Strood started in the circle getting the win and tossing 5.0 innings, allowing three hits and just one run while striking out a batter. Azua came in in the 6th to close the game out, getting her second save of the season.

Both sides got hits in the first two innings, but it took until the third for someone to find a run. The run came off the bat of Tallen Edwards who hit a solo home run for the Aggies lone of the game.

From there, Texas State answered in the bottom of the 4th. Starting with a Bass single, she went on to score after another Coleman single and a Vestal double. Vestal was responsible for the go-ahead run.

Texas State added a third run to its tally to seal the game in the fifth on a RBI single from Williams. She scored Sami Hood who led off the inning with a double.
