SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball held #1 Texas to three runs on Wednesday evening, losing 3-2 in the midweek meeting.

Maddy Azua started in the circle for the Bobcats, tossing 5.0 innings and starting her night with a strikeout. She only allowed one base runner in the first inning, on a walk.
Texas State was able to get two runners on base in the bottom of the inning but were left stranded.
Azua held the Longhorns scoreless for three innings, despite letting runners on base. It was Texas State that opened the scoring with a fielder's choice for
Aiyana Coleman turned into two runs, one off a throwing error by the Longhorns second basemen.
Texas answered with one run in the 4
th, scoring on a
Sami Hood error.
The two sides traded leaving runners on in the fourth and fifth innings. Texas opted to bring on their ace, Teagan Kavan, in the bottom of the 4
th for the final out, making Texas State strand three runners.
Texas took the lead in the sixth. Back-to-back home runs off Azua ended her night, despite an impressive showing against the Longhorns high-powered offense.
Emma Strood came in to close the inning, getting a strikeout, fly out and foul out.
After a lead off hit by pitch, three-straight strikeouts for Kavan sent the game to the 7
th. Strood retired the side in order with a pair of fly outs and a strike out.
Texas State put the tying run on in the 7
th when
Keely Williams was walked to lead off the inning. She advanced to second on a sac-bunt from
Sydney Harvey. Ultimately, though, the game ended when Bass flew out to right field and Williams was thrown out trying to advance to third.
After today's 3-2 loss, Texas State is now 20-13 on the season and 3-3 in Sun Belt play.
