Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Tennis Falls to Troy 4-3 in Sun Belt Opener

SAN MARCOS, Texas— Texas State women's tennis dropped a tightly contested 4-3 decision to Troy on Friday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex to open Sun Belt Conference play.

The loss moves the Bobcats to 8-5 overall, including a 3-3 mark on the road and 0-1 in conference action.

Doubles
Texas State secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. 

On court one, Olivia Collins and Ireland Simme defeated Troy's Valeriia Avdeeva and Maria Guirguis, 6-3, to give the Bobcats an early edge. 

Chantajah Mills and Emily Niers followed with a dominant 6-0 victory on court three over Hiba Heni and Emilia Namyslo to clinch the doubles point. 

The match on court two featuring Stoney Cooks and Charlotte Roesch was left unfinished with Troy leading 5-4.

Singles
In singles play, the Bobcats picked up two wins.

Ireland Simme earned a strong straight-set victory on court two, defeating Avdeeva 6-3, 6-0. 


Anastasia Radovanovic added another point for Texas State with a 7-5, 6-4 win on court six. Troy claimed the remaining four singles courts to secure the match. 

On court one, Guirguis defeated Emily Niers 6-2, 7-5, while Leena Metwally topped Charlotte Roesch 6-2, 6-3 on court three. 

Heni outlasted Tadiwa Mauchi in a three-set battle on court four, 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-3.

The deciding point came on court five, where Alexia Zarate rallied after dropping the first set to defeat Stoney Cooks 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.


Texas State will return to action Saturday at 10 a.m. against Georgia State in a neutral-site match at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
