Softball Falls to Lamar in Midweek Meeting

BEAUMONT, Texas – Texas State softball suffered its first run-rule loss of the season in its midweek meeting with Lamar on Wednesday night.

Despite loading the bases in the first, Texas State was unable to score any runs and when the Cardinals scored three runs in the bottom of the first, the Bobcats were on the back foot throughout.

How it Happened:
Texas State loaded the bases in the first inning with back-to-back walks from Keely Williams and Sydney Harvey to lead the game off. They'd advance to third on a sac-bunt by Karmyn Bass, but a double play was turned off Aiyana Coleman to get Williams out. From there, Harley Vestal walked too, but a Kate Bubela lineout ended the inning.

Emma Strood started in the circle for the Bobcats, allowing five runs in two innings. She hit the first batter she faced and walked the second before getting her first strikeout against the third batter she faced. The Cardinals scored their first run on an RBI single, their second on a wild pitch. From there, they added a third on an RBI double. Strood struck out a second batter to end the inning.

The Bobcats were retired in order in the 2nd, while Lamar added two more runs. Strood surrendered an RBI single before being replaced by Analisa Soliz. Soliz gave up an double for the Cardinals to score their fifth run.
Sydney Harvey got one of the Bobcats' two runs in the third, but she and Coleman were stranded on base.

Lamar added three more runs in the 3rd after leading the inning off with a walk. They filled the bases on a second walk and single down the left field line. From there, Abigail Jennings came in to pitch. The Cardinals scored one on a wild pitch, and another on an RBI single. The run-rule deciding run came in off an error by Kate Bubela as she dropped an attempt to get an out at second.

Texas State got the bases loaded in the fourth in an attempt to get rid of the run-rule score before the 5thinning, but to no avail. With Williams, Coleman and Bubela on base, Harvey lined out to the Cardinals second basemen.

The Bobcats again got a runner on in the 5th, another walk for Coleman, but were unable to score. In the end, Texas State fell 8-0.

After today's game, Texas State is now 19-10 on the season and 2-1 in Sun Belt play.
