Bobcats Drop 4-1 Decision to FIU

DENTON, Texas— Texas State women's tennis suffered its second loss of the weekend, falling to FIU, 4-1, Saturday afternoon at the Waranch Tennis Complex.

With the loss, the Bobcats moved to 6-4 overall on the season, including a 3-2 record on the road and 0-2 neutral site record. The Bobcats are undefeated when playing at the Bobcat Tennis Complex posting a 3-0 record.

The Bobcats return home next week to take on SEMO and Lamar at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.

Doubles
Tadiwa Mauchi and Chantajah Mills were the first to finish on court three, dropping a 6-4 decision to Vittoria Baccino and Maria Lu Araoz-Gosn.

On court two, Stoney Cooks and Charlotte Roesch responded with a 6-4 victory over Aleksandra Simeva and Jelena Vico to even doubles play.

The Panthers clinched the point on court one, where Viktorie Hazmukova and Katerina Mandelikova secured a 7-4 win over Olivia Collins and Ireland Simme.

Singles
FIU extended its lead early in singles play with straight-set victories on courts two and one. Jelena Vico defeated Charlotte Roesch, 6-3, 6-2, before Katerina Mandelikova claimed court one against Emily Niers, 6-3, 6-4, to give the Panthers a 3-0 advantage.

Ireland Simme put Texas State on the board on court four. After winning the opening set 6-1, Simme dropped the second set 6-4 but rebounded with a 6-1 victory in the deciding set to earn the Bobcats' lone point of the match.

FIU clinched the match on court three, where Vittoria Baccino rallied after dropping the first set to defeat Tadiwa Mauchi, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, sealing the 4-1 final.

Two singles matches went unfinished. On court five, Stoney Cooks forced a third set after taking the second 7-5. Olivia Collins was also competing in a third set on court six when play was halted.

Texas State returns to San Marcos next weekend and is set to host SEMO on Sunday, March 8, and Lamar on Monday, March 9, at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
