Bobcats Come Up Short Against North Texas on the Road

DENTON, Texas Women's tennis suffered its first loss in over a month on Friday evening to North Texas with a final score of 4-2. 

The loss breaks the Bobcats six game win streak which extends all the way back to January 30th. Texas State had consecutive wins against St. Mary's, UTRGV, New Mexico State, Sam Houston, Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word. 

Texas State started the match picking up with the doubles point to go up 1-0 into singles play. North Texas gained momentum as they won three straight single matches to go up 3-1. The Bobcats would answer back with a singles win to close the gap to 3-2.

The Mean Green would ultimately close the match winning the next couple matches winning ultimately 4-2.

Doubles
Sophomore Tadiwa Mauchi and Chantajah Mills claimed the first doubles match on court three, defeating Ujin Batsukh and Giulianna Ciangherotti 6-0.

Stoney Cooks and Charlotte Roesch secured the doubles point on court two with a 6-3 victory over Pia Petelinsek and Carolina Laydner.

Texas State has now secured the doubles point in seven straight matches.

Singles
Lou Chalard recorded the first singles decision of the afternoon on court one, defeating Emily Niers in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, to even the team score at 1-1.

North Texas regained the advantage on court six as Olivia Collins fell to Ujin Batsukh, 6-2, 6-4, giving the Mean Green a 2-1 lead. 

Charlotte Roesch dropped a three-set decision to Carolina Laydner on court two, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, as North Texas extended its lead to 3-1.

Ireland Simme responded for the Bobcats on court four, earning a three-set victory over Pia Petelinsek, 6-2, 1-6, 7-5, to trim the deficit to 3-2.

North Texas clinched the match on court five, where Stoney Cooks fell to Ciangherotti in straight sets. Ciangherotti claimed a first-set tiebreak, 7-6 (7-5), before closing out the match, 7-5, in the second set.

The match was played to clinch, with the remaining singles contests abandoned.

Texas State will remain in Denton for its next match against FIU at noon Saturday at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
