Dominant Victory for Bobcats Saturday Over ODU

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team (13-11, 6-6 Sun Belt) led throughout the game on its way to an 81-64 victory over Old Dominion (7-16, 4-7 Sun Belt) Saturday afternoon in Strahan Arena.

DJ Hall scored a game-high and set a new career best with 24 points on 7-of-8 shooting with two made three-pointers and went 8-for-10 at the free throw line. The freshman also had six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Flirting with a triple-double was Mark Drone. He scored 12 points, dished out eight assists, grabbed seven rebounds and recorded three steals. Also netting 12 points was Franck Emmou, who made 4-of-5 shots that saw him make both three-point and free throw attempts.

Coming off the bench, Robert Fields chipped in nine points and seven rebounds. Jalen Bolden also made two attempts from beyond the arc.

The Bobcats outscored the Monarchs in bench points (32-17), points off turnovers (20-10) and off the fastbreak (19-5). As a team, TXST shot 45.8% (27-of-59), made 43.8% (7-of-16) on three-pointers and connected on 80.0% (20-of-25) free throw attempts.

Hall opened the game with three-pointers on Texas State's first two possessions of the game for an early 6-0 advantage. The Bobcats would not look as the closest ODU would get was after Jordan Battle trey after Hall's second made three-pointer.

The largest lead in the first half for TXST was 15 points, which was achieved twice. The latest in the period was at 40-25 when Emmou hit a shot from beyond the arc.

Battle made a three-pointer to beat the halftime buzzer and then Ketron Show converted a layup on the opening possession of the second half to cut the visitor's deficit to seven points. Texas State responded with a 13-0 run over the next five-plus minutes to go up by 20.

The final 14 points of the game for the Bobcats were scored by either Fields or Hall.

Next up for TXST is a road game on Wednesday at Georgia Southern with tipoff set for 6 p.m.
