Bobcats Host Southern Miss Saturday Afternoon

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team (10-9, 3-4 Sun Belt) hosts Southern Miss (11-8, 5-2 Sun Belt) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. inside Strahan Arena to wrap up the week.

Wednesday saw the Bobcats snap a two-game skid with a 59-54 victory over Louisiana at home. It marked the ninth win in Strahan Arena this season and 12th victory in the last 14 games dating back to last season.

Mark Drone leads the team in scoring at 13.6 points per game with 18 made three-pointers and has handed out 43 assists. After recording his sixth double-double of the season, DJ Hall is averaging 13.4 ppg and a team leading 7.9 rebounds a contest. The freshman leads the Sun Belt Conference with a 55.4% shooting mark.

Following a season-high 18-point performance, Kaden Gumbs increased his scoring average to 8.5 ppg, is shooting 50.0% from the field and has made 34-of-41 (82.9%) free throws. He also leads the team with 3.7 assists per game.

About Southern Miss
The Golden Eagles are coming off a 91-65 loss Wednesday night at Troy. The setback dropped them to 3-6 in true road games this season. In conference play, USM is 2-1 with victories at Louisiana and ULM.

Tylik Weeks enters the contest scoring 17.6 ppg, shooting 48.2% and has made 95-of-117 (81.2%) free throws. He is also putting up 6.2 rpg while posting 36 assists and 23 steals. Isaac Taveras is the only other player with a double-digit scoring average at 15.8 ppg and is retrieving 6.7 rpg. Djahi Binet leads the team with 7.4 rpg and is netting 9.9 ppg.

The only players to have made at least 10 three-pointers on the year are Izzy Hart (17), Curt Lewis (32) and Chiante Tramble (17).

Series History
Southern Miss holds a 5-3 lead in the all-time series after winning the first meeting this season 80-70 in overtime. It marked the third consecutive overtime contest between the programs, which is the longest active streak in the nation.

When hosting the Golden Eagles, Texas State is 2-1 all-time. The most recent win in Strahan Arena for the Bobcats came on Jan. 18, 2025. That night saw Tylan Pope record a double-double of 28 points and 12 rebounds while Coleton Benson made five three-pointers on his way to finishing with 23 points in the 85-82 overtime contest.
