STANFORD, Calif — Texas State volleyball finished off a weekend in Stanford with a 3-1 win over Hawaii. This was the Bobcats first-ever win against Hawaii.
Nina Moorer led the way for the Bobcats with 13 kills, which tied her career best that she has set three different times this season. That, alongside seven kills and four blocks from
Jade Defraeye, and another five blocks from
Bailey Hanner helped the Bobcats to a five-set win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Texas State held control of the first set most of the way through. Despite matching points through 8-8, Texas State went on a run to push themselves out to a 10-15 lead. From there, the Bobcats were able to see it out to win the first set 25-16. Moorer led both sides with five kills. Texas State silenced the Hawaii attack, the Rainbow Wahine hit .000 with nine kills and nine errors.
Set two found both sides struggling offensively, with both sides tallying more errors than kills in the set. Despite this, though, Texas State was able to win set two 25-20. Despite offensive struggles, the Bobcats took advantage of the 10 attack errors and five service errors from Hawaii to win the second set.
The Bobcats had all but put away set three with a 18-15 lead when Hawaii surged back to win set three. A 10-1 run from Hawaii helped them to a 25-19 win to force a set four. Hawaii hit .556 in set three, the best of any set in the match, to win set three.
Set four had the momentum back in the 'Cats hands, though. Texas State continued to force Hawaii attack errors, limiting them to a .103 attack percentage, while hitting .205 with 12 kills. That, alongside 4.0 team blocks helped Texas State win set four 25-22, winning the match.
After today's four set win against Hawaii, Texas State is 5-6 on the season as they head into the start of conference play next week.
