Bobcats Stage 7th Inning Comeback for Road Win at ULM

MONROE, La.,– Texas State softball went into the 7th inning down three runs and getting no hit and came out the other side with five runs on four hits and a win. Texas State is the first team to win at ULM this season and improve to 32-18 and 14-8 on the season with the result.

Megan Kelnar started off the 7th inning comeback with a single to center field which was followed up by a walk, single and bases loaded walk to start the scoring. From there, a single from Keely Williams and a double from Aiyana Coleman would push the Bobcats out to a 5-3 lead.

Emma Strood started in the circle and tossed the complete game for the Bobcats, striking out the side in the bottom of the 7th to call game and seal the 5-3 win.

How it Happened:
The Bobcats started off the game with two walks out of Sydney Harvey and Aiyana Coleman. Coleman's was her 37th walk of the season, one of the most walked batters in the Sun Belt. The two were stranded on base, though, after a Karmyn Bass popup.

Emma Strood started in the circle for the Bobcats, she'd allow two runs in the first after three hits helped the Warhawks get runners on base.

Neither side would add any runs in the second, though, despite the Warhawks getting a leadoff single.

The Bobcats again had two baserunners in the top of the third, courtesy of a hit by pitch against Erin Peterson, and a walk from Keely Williams, but a Coleman strikeout would end the inning.

Strood retired the Warhawks in order in the third and fourth, though.

In the fifth, ULM added a third run on an obstruction call at home. Heading into the 7th, the Warhawks still held the 3-0 lead.

Up to bat came Kelnar, though. She popped the ball out into centerfield to break up a no-hitter and get the Bobcats comeback started. Emily Fish was walked on her at-bat and the pair would advance and load the bases on a Kate Bubela single up the middle.

A bases loaded walk for Sydney Harvey would put the first run on the board for the Bobcats.

Following that up, Garrett, who pinch ran for Fish, would be thrown out at home on an Erin Peterson fielders choice. The Bobcats remained with bases loaded and just one out.

Next up, Williams place the ball perfectly past the Warhawks second basement to allow herself to reach and for Bubela to score while leading the bases loaded.

Next up to bat was the Bobcats team-leader in RBI, Coleman. Despite not reaching on her first two at-bats of the game, Coleman won the Bobcats the game with a double to right center that cleared the bases to score three runs. After the top of the 7th, the Bobcats had a 5-3 lead and needed three outs.

Strood came up clutch in the final inning, not allowing the Warhawks to put any balls into play. Three-straight strikeouts swinging for Strood called game and iced the win for the Bobcats.

After the 5-3 win, Texas State is now 32-18 on the season, and 14-8 in Sun Belt play.
