Women's Basketball Bows Out of Sun Belt Tournament

PENSACOLA, Florida –  Texas State women's basketballs season came to an end on Wednesday afternoon after a 68-62 loss to 11 seed Marshall in the second round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

Despite a lead at the half and double digit nights from Jaylin Foster, Ja'Mia Harris and Destiny Terrell, the Bobcats fell to the Thundering Herd.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bobcats came out aggressive in the first quarter, quickly putting themselves ahead and leading the entire first quarter. Led by eight points from Destiny Terrell, the Bobcats doubled Marshall, outscoring them 16-8. The Bobcats shot 7-14 while limiting Marshall to just 4-14 shooting, going 0-7 from their favored shot beyond the arc. Limiting the Thundering Herd's three-point shooting was pivotal to the Bobcats success in the first quarter.

The Thundering Herd found a rhythm in the second quarter, which helped them to make a dent in the Bobcats lead. The team was able to go 2-6 from three while shooting 8-15 from the field for 23 points in the second quarter. Texas State answered with 17 points, led by eight from Jaylin Foster. Most of Foster's points came from the free throw line, where she went 6-6 in the second period. Despite shooting just 4-13 in the second quarter, the Bobcats carried a 33-31 lead at the half.

Aislynn Hayes helped the Thundering Herd to 18 points in the third quarter. Despite the team shooting just 4-12, they went 9-14 from the free throw line. Hayes was responsible for six of those. Texas State shot 5-12 in the third, but limited free throw opportunities helped the Thundering Herd take the lead in the third, and they never relinquished it through to the end of the game.

The Bobcats struggled in the early goings of the fourth quarter, allowing Marshall to extend their lead to as many as 13 at one point, but a battle from the Bobcats brought the game back within single digits. Five points from Destiny Terrell and three from Ja'Mia Harris with less than three minutes to play in the game had the Bobcats down just 62-56. Despite bringing it within two possessions, Marshall snuck out the win and won 68-62.

Texas State finished its season with a 13-17 record, going 7-11 in Sun Belt play and finishing as the 10th place team in the conference.
