Dominating Performance Over ULM

SAN MARCOS, Texas – It was a dominating performance for the Texas State men's basketball team (14-14, 7-8 Sun Belt) Wednesday night inside Strahan Arena. The Bobcats led the entire game in the 80-63 win over ULM (7-21, 3-12 Sun Belt) in the first of four consecutive home games to wrap up the regular season.

Christian Turner recorded his first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The senior forward was 7-of-11 from the field and went 1-for-2 on three-point attempts. He also dished out a team-high five assists and recorded two steals.

Also nearly finishing with a double-double was Tyrel Morgan after scoring 15 points and grabbing nine boards. He made 3-of-5 shots from beyond the arc and blocked two shots.

Tylan Pope scored a team-high 16 points and retrieved seven rebounds. Off the bench, Joshua O'Garro totaled 11 points and seven boards.

As a team, TXST outrebounded the Warhawks 55-24 with 22 of the Bobcats' boards coming on the offensive glass. They also were 9-of-30 on three-pointers with the 30 attempts being the most from long distance since also taking 30 against UT Arlington on Feb. 12, 2015.

Texas State opened the game scoring the first 13 points and 15 of the first 16. ULM used an 11-2 run over a nearly five-minute span to cut its deficit to 20-15 with 7:59 left in the first half. All of the visitors' points during the scoring stretch came at the free throw line.

A 40-25 lead would be taken into halftime by TXST after Coleton Benson made a three-pointer and Nate Deer knocked down to shots at the charity stripe.

Over the first seven and a half minutes of the second half, the Bobcats outscored the visitors 16-4 to take their largest lead of the game at 56-29.

Seven of the final nine points of the game for Texas State were courtesy of O'Garro. The Bobcats' final points were courtesy of a dunk by Jaylen Jones with 36 seconds to play.

Next up for TXST is South Alabama, the Sun Belt Conference leaders, on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
