Bobcats Blank Rattlers 4-0

Texas State earned its second win in Florida on Saturday

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Bobcats earned their second consecutive road victory on Saturday when they defeated Florida A&M 4-0 at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. Texas State started off strong, winning the doubles point, and carried that momentum into singles play, winning three straight matches to secure the win.

"It was another solid win for us today," said head coach Kendall Brooks. "The girls executed exactly what was needed and brought great energy again, which we talked about making sure not to drop after a tough match yesterday. Happy to be leaving with two road wins and excited to get back home finally next weekend."

The Bobcats held the Rattlers scoreless during their match on Saturday. Texas State needed just one doubles win to secure the point due to Florida A&M being unable to field three doubles pairs. The Bobcats carried the momentum into singles play and secured wins on courts five and three to earn the victory.

Doubles
Texas State started with an advantage in doubles play and only needed to win one match to earn the doubles point. That win came from the pair of Chantajah Mills and Ireland Simme on court two.

The duo won their match 6-1, earning their first doubles win of the season.

The court No. 1 match featuring Sofia Fortuno and Maria Lora went unfinished. The pair trailed 3-4 against Florida A&M's Sara Rakim and Genesis Westbrook.

Singles
The Bobcats entered singles play up 2-0, since the Rattlers only had five available players, and needed just two singles wins to secure the overall victory.

Simme won her match by forfeit on court No. 6, giving Texas State a 2-0 lead going into the beginning of singles play.

On court No. 5, Emily Niers extended Texas State's lead to 3-0 with a straight-set win, 6-0, 6-0. She moved to 2-1 in singles play on court five this year.

The match-clinching point came from Fortuno, who also secured the victory for the Bobcats on Friday. She won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, on court No. 3 to earn her second win of the season.

The matches on courts one, two, and four all went unfinished after the Bobcats clinched the win.

On court No. 1, Kiana Graham won the first set 6-0 and trailed 3-4 in the second against Florida A&M's Rakim.

Callie Creath and Tadiwa Mauchi were the only other Bobcats with unfinished matches. Creath led 6-1, 3-3 on court No. 2, while Mauchi was ahead 6-4, 3-0 on court No. 4.
