Texas State Wins in Five Sets on Senior Night, Last Home Sun Belt Game

Box Score SAN MARCOS, Texas — Texas State volleyball said farewell to its seniors and the Sun Belt in their last home games of the year with a 3-2 win over Coastal Carolina.

Defraeye had another nine-block night enroute to surpassing 400 blocks in her career to help the Bobcats to the win alongside a double-double night from Samantha Wunsch and Maggie Walsh. The team dug a season-best 82 balls with 66 kills to win the match.

WHAT HEAD COACH SEAN HUIET SAID: "I'm super proud. You always want to give your seniors one last win in Strahan. We knew Coastal is a really good team. We knew yesterday we played really well. We knew they were going to come back at us. There in sets two and three there were some things we needed to fix, we didn't like our response. But I loved how we responded and took control in the fifth set. We're playing some good volleyball. We're excited to head up to JMU and get ready for the conference tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set one was all Bobcats. Despite being tied at seven apiece early on, Texas State went on a 7-0 run to make that a 14-7 lead off a Bailey Hanner serve run. Her run gave the Bobcats the momentum to go on and win set one 25-12. Highlighting that first set was five kills from Defraeye to start off her 12-kill night.

Coastal Carolina regained their footing in set two, though, forcing a back and forth set with seven tied scores and four lead changes. The Chanticleer block was more effective, though, with five blocks to the Bobcats zero. That different ultimately helped the Chants win the set 25-21.

Set three was similar between the two sides, except with attack errors riddling the offenses. While Texas State tallied 10 errors, Coastal Carolina had eight. That was the difference in set three when Coastal Carolina won by another 25-21 score.

From there, the Bobcats battled in the fourth. They gave it everything to not lose on their court on Senior Night. Coastal was up 6-1 early and Huiet called a timeout that helped calm the team down. From there, the Bobcats slowly chipped away at the lead and took a 17-16 lead in the later stages of the set. From there, another service run from Hanner helped the team get out to a 20-17 lead. Five kills from Walsh helped Texas State tremendously in the set, and they'd go on to win 25-22.

Texas State controlled momentum early in the fifth set, going up 7-1, started on another service run from Hanner. Coastal threatened through the midway point, bringing the match back within two at 10-8, but the Bobcats rallied to put the match away. Ultimately it was the Bobcats by a 15-12 score to win the match.

After today's five set win, Texas State is 14-11 on the season and 9-5 in Sun Belt play.
