Basketball Completes Perfect Five-Game Homestand

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team (6-2) completed its five-game homestand at Strahan Arena with a 5-0 record after defeating Texas Lutheran 93-41 on Monday evening.

Leading the way for the Bobcats was Jalen Bolden with a season-high 24 points off the bench. The senior was 9-of-13 from the field including 3-for-6 on three-pointers. He also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, dished out three assists and recorded three steals.

DJ Hall reached double-figures for the sixth consecutive game as he finished with 19 points after making 9-of-13 shots. The Plano, Texas native grabbed seven rebounds, finished with a season-high five steals and handed out two assists.

The third TXST player in double-digits was Kaden Gumbs with 11 points while also recording a game best six assists. Makai Willis totaled eight points and seven boards.

As a team, the Bobcats finished with 18 steals to fall two shy of tying the program's single-game record. Kyndall Davis had three swipes and both Jaelyn Lee and Willis recorded two apiece.

Texas State never trailed in the contest as it opened by scoring eight straight points and 15 of the first 17. The Bulldogs got to within 12 after Carter Lewis knocked down a three-pointer with 2:53 left in the first half.

Over the final 2:34 of the half, the Bobcats would go on a 12-0 run to take a 24-point lead into the break. Capping it off was an old-fashioned three-point play by Gumbs with 0.4 remaining on the clock.

TLU would score four straight points early in the second half. That would be the visitor's longest run of the period as the Bulldogs were limited to 10 points over the last 18:39. The Bobcats would go on runs of six, eight, 10 and 13 points in the half.

Next up for TXST is the Resorts World Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Bobcats will open the four-team event against Seattle on Friday at 1 p.m. CT.
