SAN MARCOS, Texas – For the second straight weekend, the Texas State men's basketball team (8-7, 1-2 Sun Belt) will be on the road. Thursday will see the squad face Troy (10-4, 3-0 Sun Belt) at 6 p.m. on Thursday from the Trojan Arena.

About Texas State
Heading into the weekend, the Bobcats have dropped three straight contests. Thursday is the start of the back half of a four-game road swing in conference play. In the NET Rankings, TXST is one of five Sun Belt Conference programs in the top 200.
Continuing to pace the team offensively is
Tyrel Morgan at 15.2 points per game while shooting 51.7% from the field. He shares the team lead in in rebounding (6.8) and steals (23) with
Joshua O'Garro and
Kaden Gumbs, respectively. Morgan is also second on the squad with 13 blocks, two shy of matching his career high.
Tylan Pope enters scoring 13.4 ppg on 53.9% shooting. He ranks fourth in the conference with an 80.3% free throw. Joining him in the top four of free throw percentage is O'Garro (90.5%) and Gumbs (86.3%), who rank first and second in the league, respectively. Gumbs is contributing 11.9 ppg and has dished out 67 assists. Also with a double-digit scoring mark is
Coleton Benson at 10.0 behind 16 made three-pointers in seven contests.
Leading the way with 22 made treys and a 50.0% shooting from beyond the arc is
Drue Drinnon. Also making double-digit triples has been Dyaln Dawson and Morgan with 11 apiece.
About Troy
The Trojans are on a five-game winning streak with two victories over non-Division I programs and three over Sun Belt foes App State, Georgia State and Marshall. At home, Troy is 6-1 with the lone setback coming on Nov. 29 against Merrimack. All six of its victories at home have been by at least 10 points with an average margin of 22.2 points.
The only players averaging double-digits scoring this season are Myles Rigsby (12.1) and Tayton Conerway (10.6), who is the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week. Rigsby is shooting 45.8% from the field and a team leading 79.7% at the free throw line. He also paces the squad with 11 blocks and is second with 24 steals.
Conerway comes in making 44.3% of his shots and has made 14 three-pointers. The senior has recorded a team-high 60 assists and 41 steals, which also paces the conference.
Putting up at least seven points a contest is Jerrell Bellamy (7.2), Thomas Dowd (7.9), Jackson Fields (7.8) and Marcus Rigsby, Jr. (7.3). The top rebounder for the Trojans is Dowd at 5.5 per game.
Series History
Texas State leads the all-time series 11-9 and has won the last two meetings. Last season saw the Bobcats win 82-79 in overtime at home and then defeat Troy 74-68 in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Tournament.
When playing the Trojans on the road, TXST is 4-4 all-time. The last meeting in Troy was a 78-65 setback on Jan. 24, 2024. The Bobcats haven't won on the road in the series since a 66-61 victory on Feb. 25, 2022. That night saw Caleb Asberry score 26 points in that campaign's regular season finale
