Men’s Hoops Closes Out Weekend at App State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The first of two consecutive weekends on the road comes to an end on Saturday when Texas State (8-6, 1-1 Sun Belt) faces App State (6-7, 0-2 Sun Belt). The game is scheduled for a 12 p.m. CT tipoff from the Holmes Convocation Center.

About Texas State
Thursday saw the Bobcats drop their second straight game with a 77-71 loss at Marshall. A furious late-minute comeback saw TXST cut the deficit from 14 to five points in 35 seconds. On the road, Texas State is 3-5 playing away from San Marcos and 1-4 in true road games.
 
Pacing the Bobcats offensively is Tyrel Morgan at 15.2 points per game while shooting 51.8% from the field. He shares the team leading in rebounds (7.0) with Joshua O'Garro and is second with 21 steals and 13 blocks. Tylan Pope comes in netting 13.6 ppg with a 54.2 field goal percentage and team best 19 rejections.
 
Leading TXST in assists (64) and steals (22) is Kaden Gumbs. The sophomore is adding 12.7 ppg that includes making 86.3% of his free throws. His charity stripe percentage is the second best in the Sun Belt behind teammate O'Garro (90.5%).
 
Coleton Benson has come off the bench in all six games this season and is netting 11.3 ppg. He has made 16 three-pointers with at least two in each contest while knocking them down at a 44.4% clip.
 
About App State
The Mountaineers head into Saturday on a four-game losing streak. Thursday saw them fall at home to Troy and other setbacks have been on the road versus High Point, North Texas and Louisiana. All of the losses have been by eight points or less. When playing at home, App State is 4-2.
 
Myles Tate enters the game leading the team in scoring (14.5), made three-pointers (26), assists (64) and steals (34). The only other player with a double-digit scoring average is CJ Huntley at 14.0 ppg behind a team best 50.4 field goal percentage. Dior Conners comes in making a team best 43.6% from beyond the arc with 24 made treys.
 
Series History
Texas State holds a 10-8 advantage in the all-time series. The teams have split the last six meetings that has seen the Bobcats win three times at home and the Mountaineers claim two victories at home and one in Pensacola in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Last time the teams met was Feb. 7, 2024 in San Marcos that saw TXST win 63-56 behind a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double from Davion Sykes.
 
When playing in Boone, Texas State is 2-5 all-time. The most recent win was a 70-69 contest on Jan. 12, 2019.
