Five Bobcats in Double-Figures in Win Over Panthers

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Five Texas State players scored at least 10 points in the team's 94-80 win over Georgia State on Wednesday inside Strahan Arena.

The Bobcats are now 10-8 on the season while the Panthers drop to 7-11. Both teams sport a 3-3 record in the Sun Belt Conference.

Both Austin Green and Tylan Pope recorded double-doubles. Green finished with 10 points, 12 rebounds and five assists while Pope totaled a team-high 20 points and 12 rebounds.

Tyrel Morgan netted 13 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished out five assists and recorded two steals. Kaden Gumbs was the fourth starter in double-figures with 13 points. All three of his made shots came from beyond the arc. The sophomore also finished with six assists, three boards, one block and one steal.

Coming off the bench, Coleton Benson scored 18 points as he knocked down five shots from beyond the arc. Nate Deer nearly reached double-digits with eight points on 4-of-4 shooting.

As a team, TXST shot 50.7% from the field with 37 made shots, the most against a Division I opponent since Feb. 6, 2020 when the team converted 40 field goal attempts at Coastal Carolina.

Texas State also dominated on the boards with a 44-31 advantage. The squad's 17 offensive rebounds led to 25 second chance points.

GSU took its largest lead of the game at 12-6 following a trey from Toneari Lane. The Bobcats responded with a 10-0 run in nearly two minutes to take a four-point advantage. Capping off the scoring stretch was a three-pointer from Morgan.

After the Panthers retook the lead by scoring seven straight points, Texas State went on a 22-1 run that covered 6:13 minutes. Near the end of it, Green netted seven straight points.

The Bobcats went into halftime leading 46-35 after the visitors scored 15 of the final 21 points.

Starting off the second half, TXST's first three field goals were from beyond the arc. Gumbs knocked down two of them and Morgan added another.

The Panthers made 7-of-9 shots in a two-and-a-half-minute span to get within 61-53. TXST kept them at bay and eventually pulled away when it went on a 16-3 run that covered 5:21. That scoring stretch gave the Bobcats their largest lead of the game at 91-67 with 2:44 left on the clock.

Next up for Texas State is a rematch with Southern Miss on Saturday. Taking place in Strahan Arena, tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
