IRVING, Texas – That National Football Foundation today announced semifinalists for the 2024 William V. Campbell Trophy, college football's premier scholar-athlete award. The list features Texas State offensive lineman
Nash Jones.
The award recognizes an individual as the absolute best in the country for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership, and the candidates also comprise the pool of nominees for the 2024 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards. Student-athletes must be a senior who will complete his final year of eligibility during the 2024 season or a graduate student or graduate transfer who has already earned a degree and will participate during the 2024 season; have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale; have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.
A history major with a religious studies minor, Jones is in his second season with the Bobcats after spending three seasons at UIW. The Nacogdoches, Texas, native has started all three games for TXST in 2024 helping the Bobcats to a 2-1 record and top-30 rankings in passing offense, scoring offense and total offense. He is also a member of the Reese's Senior Bowl Watch List.
Jones has started all 38 games played during his career and helped Texas State to a program FBS-record eight wins in 2023 and the first bowl game appearance and victory for the school en route to a national ranking of 11th in scoring offense to close the season.
While at UIW, Jones was a three-time All-Southland Conference selection and named an FCS All-American by multiple publications, helping the Cardinals to top-15 rankings each season in passing, rushing, scoring and total offense. The 2022 season saw UIW lead the country in scoring offense, while the program finished first in total offense in 2020.
The National Football Foundation will announce 12-15 finalists on October 23. One finalist will be named the winner of the 35th Campbell Trophy® during the 66th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on December 10.
Jones and the Bobcats leave San Marcos for the first time in 2024 to face Sam Houston on Saturday at NRG Stadium in Houston. Kick is slated for 2 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
