Huiet Earns 100th Career Win in Sweep vs TAMUCC

EL PASO, Texas — Texas State volleyball started the Southwest Showdown with a 3-0 win over Texas A&M – Corpus Christi which was head coach Sean Huiet's 100th win of his career.

Huiet now sits with a 100-42 record as head coach, making him the fastest coach to reach 100 wins in Texas State volleyball history. Longtime former head coach Karen Chisum reached the milestone in 162 games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bobcats started off the match hot with a 5-1 start with two kills from Sam Wunsch. Wunsch would go on to lead the team with 17 kills on the night. From there, the Islanders were able to fight their way back into the set and tie the score back at 15 apiece. The two sides battled from that point, but ultimately Texas State's block was able to help them find a 28-27 lead, and a kill from Jade Defraeye won the Bobcats the set 29-27.

Set two was another hot start from the Bobcats. The Bobcats found a 15-8 lead at the media timeout and were able to battle through to the end. The Bobcat defense showed out with three blocks and 17 digs, led by Alyssa Ortega with seven in set two alone. The defense made the difference as Texas State went on to a 2-0 lead.

Wunsch continued her heavy-hitting night in set three with seven kills on 13 attacks. That, paired with five kills from MJ McCurdy, helped the Bobcats to a 25-22 win in set three. Ultimately, the final point to secure the win came from a net violation on the Islanders.

Ryann Torres finished the night with her third consecutive double-double, going for 36 assists and 10 digs. Additionally, Sam Wunsch had a season-high 17 kills on the night.
