SAN MARCOS, Texas – UFCU Stadium is set to begin a new renovation project in mid-July. In addition to the renovation of the
Weisman Football Performance Center including the addition of the
William Trevillion IV Weight Room, UFCU Stadium will be getting new turf installed ahead of the 2024 football season.
The Bobcats will take the field on a Vertex Core turf system with a Coolplay additive made by
FieldTurf, a combination that is used by top programs around the nation. The Vertex Core system is used by programs like Oregon, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Utah and more. The Vertex Core, paired with the CoolPlay additive, will help create one of the best playing surfaces that is up to 35 degrees cooler than traditional sand and rubber fields.
"We are excited about adding this element to UFCU Stadium," said Director of Athletics, Don Coryell. "Between the new naming partnership with UFCU, renovation of the Weisman Football Performance Center, and new Jim Wacker Field turf we have made significant investment in our football program and game day experience. We will be ready for another historic season in the national spotlight."
Vertex Core is known for both its proven safety, durability and overall appearance. NFL teams such as the Carolina Panthers and over 40 colleges and universities nationwide use the Vertex Core turf system.
The new turf will also be equipped with CoolPlay which is FieldTurf's exclusive and innovative Extruded Cork Composite (ECC) top dressing that will keep the playing surface 35 degrees cooler than traditional sand/rubber infill systems. The new ECC replaces the crumb rubber top dressing which is proven to offer better performance and safety. Over 700 fields nationwide use the CoolPlay ECC dressing to help cool their fields.
The design of the field stayed relatively consistent with a few adjustments. The end zones will now say 'Texas State' on the south end zone and 'Bobcats' on the north end zone. While still alternating shades of green every five yards on the field, fans will now see updated logos on the 25-yard line for UFCU as part of the Bobcats new partnership with the credit union. The field name 'Jim Wacker Field' will remain in a new position inside the field apron near the 10-yard line on both sides of the field.
Texas State football begins its 2024 season on Aug. 31 at 7 pm inside UFCU Stadium against Lamar. Season tickets and single game tickets can be purchased at txst.com/tickets.
