SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State Volleyball released its 2024 schedule on Tuesday afternoon.
Â
The schedule features just eight regular season games inside Strahan Arena. This is because of Texas State's opportunity to host the first 2024 Presidential Debate in the fall.
Â
"While this fall promises incredible opportunities, including hosting the prestigious 2024 Presidential Debate at Strahan Arena, it also means our team will be hitting the road for preseason," said Texas State Director of Athletics Don Coryell "Our players are ecstatic about the chance to return to Hawaii for matches against two outstanding programs (Oregon State and Hawaii) in one of the best environments in college volleyball. We were also able to continue to play great in-state opponents like Texas A&M, Rice, UTEP, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and UTSA. As we saw this past season, we can put together a schedule that can give us an opportunity for an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.  We're counting on our fans unwavering support during this unique journey, and we eagerly anticipate welcoming everyone to our home court for our eight Sun Belt conference games late in the season."
Â
The Bobcats rigorous non-conference slate includes eight games against in-state opponents, as well as games against Hawaii and Oregon State. This schedule will prepare the Bobcats for eight weekends of Sun Belt Conference play.
Â
"Our schedule is a bit different this year with having to work around the debate," said Head Coach
Sean Huiet. "But I am really excited with how it turned out. I think we have a team that is up for the challenge of playing our entire preseason on the road, which in turn will help us later in the season. The schedule is a good mix of quality opponents that will help prepare us for our Sun Belt Conference schedule and our ultimate goal of making the NCAA tournament again. I hope Bobcat Nation is ready for us when we get to play in Strahan Arena and we can create one of the best atmospheres in the Sun Belt."
Prior to the regular season the Bobcats will host Lamar in an exhibition match on Aug. 24 ahead of its regular season-opening road tournament at Rice on Aug. 30-31. The Bobcats will play Rice, Texas Southern and Houston Christian in the first tournament in Houston.Â
