Texas State Softball's Season Ends at the Regional Championship

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas State Softball's 2024 campaign ended after an 8-0 loss in the program's first Championship Sunday appearance since 2003. The team finished the year with a 47-15 record, the team's best since head coach Ricci Woodard's first season in charge of the program.

Additionally, Texas State finished the season as Sun Belt Conference Tournament Champions, top 25 in the RPI, making its 13th NCAA tournament appearance and with 47 wins.

The program also graduates nine seniors this year, including two fifth year players Sara Vanderford and Tori McCann. JJ Smith, Hannah Earls, Jessica Mullins, Anna Jones, Piper Randolph, Karsen Pierce, Claire Ginder also graduate this season.

What Head Coach Ricci Woodard said: "Hats off to the Aggies. They did exactly what they needed to do to win this thing today. Second, I couldn't be more proud of the ball club I'm losing right now. It's going to be a rough week, just because of the group I'm losing, because of who they are as people. Obviously they're great ball players, but who they are as people and what they've done for this program is why I'll miss them.

What 3B Sara Vanderford said: "What I hope people remember about this senior class is nothing about softball. I hope our numbers prove ourselves, but I hope that more than that people remember us as who we are as people. I think we did a lot for the program.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Aggies came out similarly to the day before. After putting runners on the corners, they were able to put one run away from a sacrifice fly. From there, the Bobcats were unable to put up any runs.

In the 2nd inning, the Bobcats gave up two homers for three total runs to trail 4-0.

The Aggies extended their lead in the 3rd inning with four more runs off a passed ball, then added another off an RBI single. From there, an RBI double and an RBI single to cap off the scoring.

The Bobcats were able to get one hit in the 5th inning, but were unable to put any runs on the board to avoid the run rule.

Texas State finished the season with 47 wins on the season.
