MONROE, Louisiana – The Bobcats put up seven runs in six innings to get their second series sweep of the season over the ULM Warhawks. The Bobcats improved to 37-12 on the season and 13-5 in conference play.
Â
Anna Jones led with a 3-for-3 night at the plate with three singles, two runs, two RBI, a walk and three stolen bases.
Piper Randolph had two hits on the night, and
JJ Smith had another home run for two RBI.
Â
Jessica Mullins started in the circle, tossing four innings with five strikeouts and getting the win on the night.
Tori McCann came on in relief, tossing the final three innings with three strikeouts. Both pitchers gave up one run each.
How it Happened
Jones started off the scoring with her RBI single, she scored Emilee Baker who had reached on a single and advanced on a throwing error. Jones would go on to steal second base as well, but be stranded off a Smith fly out.Â
Mullins started off giving up back-to-back singles and a walk, but worked her way out of trouble. She assisted an out at home to get the first out, going on to strike out the next batter for the second. She'd assist on an out from a ground out to escape the inning with no runs on the board.
The Bobcats lone run in the second inning came off a Kat Zarate single up the middle, she scored Randolph who reached on a single of her own.Â
The lone run Mullins gave up in this game came in the second inning after giving up two hits and hitting a batter. She would go on to strike out back-to-back batters to escape the inning without allowing another run, stranding two runners on base.
Smith's home run came in the top of the third inning. She'd get 2 RBI for the attempt after Anna Jones reached on a single, stealing second in the process.
Mullins had a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts in the third, silencing the Warhawks attempt at a comeback.
Earls tallied an RBI on her single up the middle in the 4th inning, she scored Zarate who had been walked previously in the inning. In the 5th inning, Randoklph had an RBI single to score the previously walked Jones.
McCann came in to pitch in the 5th inning, replacing Mullins.
Jones hit her third single of the night in the 6th inning for the Bobcats final run. She'd score Earls who had been walked to reach base.
McCann tallied back-to-back strikeouts in the 6th inning to strand a runner on base for the Warhawks. She'd tally her third strikeout as the final out of the game to leave two runners on base. She gave up one run in the bottom of the 7th, but otherwise the Bobcats lead remained in tact for seven innings.
After the 3-0 weekend, the Bobcats improve to 37-12 on the season. The team will now look forward to its next and final road series of the 2024 season at Southern Miss next weekend. The three-game series with the Golden Eagles will start on April 26. After that series, the Bobcats will return home to host Marshall in the regular season finale.
