Women's Basketball Wins on Graduate Night

The Bobcats have a gritty showing against ULM to come out with a 76-73 win on Friday night.

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women's basketball closed out the regular season with a complete game performance that resulted in a 76-73 win after a battle with the ULM Warhawks.

Julia Coleman had a career night and second double-double of the season as she went 6-8 from the field for 13 points and pulled down 14 rebounds.

Coleman was one of four Bobcats in double-digits tonight, including an 18-point night from Ja'Niah Henson, 15 from Jaylin Foster and 13 from Tiffany Tullis.

Both Coleman and Foster had late-game offensive rebounds that put the Bobcats ahead over the Warhawks. In a one-possession game their offensive rebounds and put-back buckets ultimately were the difference tonight.

WHAT HEAD COACH ZENARAE ANTOINE SAID: "Without stating the obvious, I'm extremely happy. It was a graduate game, it was the first day of women's history month. What a great contest between two teams, hats off to Coach Miss, she has a phenomenal team. They really put it on us at their place to start out and as you saw, the one thing I loved about our Bobcats today was that we battled back. They punched, we threw one back. They were scrappy, we were scrappy. And at the end of the day it was the team that played with the most want and hunger that won the game, and that's what we did.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was a close one early on as ULM narrowly led after the first quarter. Henson had led the 'Cats with eight of the team's 14 points in the opening quarter as the 5th year guard got off to a hot start on the night. Henson continued her impressive free-throw shooting as she was 3-3 from the line in the first and 5-5 on the night, shooting over 93% this season.

Quarter two was even between the two sides on 4-13 shooting for both sides to get 12 points in the quarter. The Warhawks would carry their four-point lead from the first quarter into the halftime break.

The third period was when Foster hit her stride. She shot a perfect 3-3 and tacked on a free throw for seven points in the third quarter. Her and Henson combined for 15 points as the 'Cats erased the first quarter deficit to tie the game headed to the 4th quarter.

The fourth quarter saw six lead changes and four tied scores as it was a battle between the two sides about who would come out on top. The Cats led for 3:52 of the quarter but came away on top. This fourth quarter comeback was largely because of Tiffany Tullis going 5-5 from the free throw line while Julia Coleman knocked down five points and nabbed three boards. Texas State was able to battle through the Warhawks fouls while avoiding foul trouble themselves.

With 26 seconds on the clock, Foster rebounded a missed free-throw attempt from Coleman to put back the ball and go up 74-73. The Warhawks would foul Foster for her to ice the game with two made free-throws. At the end of the night the Bobcats walked away with a 76-73 Graduate Night win.

At the end of the regular season the Bobcats finish with a 14-17 record and a 4-14 record in Sun Belt play.
