Regular Season Concludes Friday Against Trojans

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Friday wraps up the regular season with Texas State (13-17, 6-11 Sun Belt) hunting for a first round bye when it hosts Troy (20-10, 13-4 Sun Belt) at 7:15 p.m. inside Strahan Arena. Prior to the game, the team will recognize its senior class.

About Texas State
Currently tied for 11th in the Sun Belt Conference standings, the Bobcats will need a win and some help to claim a top 10 seed and first round bye in the conference tournament. TXST enters having won its last two games after defeating ULM Tuesday night at home.
 
Since Davion Sykes entered the starting lineup at the beginning of the month, he has been a force to deal with for opposing teams. The sophomore is averaging 12.2 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while going 42-for-86 (48.8%) from the floor in that time. He has also recorded four double-doubles in that time.
 
Overall, Jordan Mason leads the team at 12.6 ppg and is making a team best 78.8% of his free throws. The sophomore is also first on the squad with 32 steals and second with 66 assists. Brandon Love enters Saturday netting 10.4 ppg and grabbing 5.5 rpg. He has blocked 44 shots, which ranks fourth in the Sun Belt and is tied for the fourth most by a TXST player in a season.
 
Kaden Gumbs is dishing out 3.5 assists a contest, which ranks fifth in the conference. His 29 steals are second on the Bobcats while he is scoring 9.1 ppg.
 
Both Coleton Benson and Dylan Dawson are threats from beyond the arc. Benson has knocked down 34 three-pointers at a team-high 41.0% mark. Dawson is shooting 33.6% from deep with a team best 46 made triples.
 
About Troy
The Trojans have also won their last two games with both coming on the road at Louisiana and ULM. They are 5-8 on the road with a 5-3 mark against conference opponents. Troy has clinched at least the three seed in the Sun Belt Tournament and could finish as high as the second seed.
 
Christyon Eugene leads the team in scoring (15.4), made three-pointers (64), three-point percentage (44.1), free throw percentage (85.0) and assists (98). The trio of Tayton Conerway (11.6), Aamer Muhammad (11.2) and Myles Rigsby (11.6) are netting over 11 points a contest.
 
Jackson Fields has blocked a team-high 36 shots while Conerway has recorded a team best 61 steals and 48.3 field goal percentage.
 
All-Time Series vs. Trojans
Texas State holds a slim 9-8 margin in the all-time series. Troy has won the last three meetings and five of the last six. The first meeting ended 78-65 for the Trojans at home. Last time the Bobcats won was a 66-61 contest on Feb. 25, 2022 in Troy, Alabama.
 
When hosting Troy, TXST is 5-3 all-time although the Trojans have won the last three games in Strahan Arena. On Jan. 6, 2018, the Bobcats won their last home game versus Troy with it coming down to a missed Trojan layup at the buzzer to hold on for a 57-56 victory.
 
TXST is 16-13 when hosting the Warhawks. Since joining the Sun Belt, the Bobcats have posted a 7-4 record against ULM in Sun Belt action.
