SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball dropped both games of day three of the TXST Tournament to Texas Tech and Tulsa by 4-1 and 3-1 score lines. Both games were results of single innings being the downfall for the Bobcats, as the 7
th versus Texas Tech and 4
th versus Tulsa were the only innings the opponents scored runs.
In the Bobcats loss to Texas Tech, the Bobcats played a clean first six innings and got themselves into trouble in the 7
th. After an RBI single from
Ciara Trahan gave the Bobcats a lead headed into the 7
th, the team gave up four runs in the top of 7 in the loss.
Against Tulsa it was a 3-run top of the fourth inning for the visitors that gave them a lead the latter half of the game. The Bobcats were able to pull one back, but with just one hit after giving up the three runs, the 'Cats fell 3-1.
The Bobcats will close the TXST Tournament tomorrow with a rematch against Texas Tech at 2:00 pm tomorrow.

"We just talked about competing better. We just repeated ourselves and that's something we can't do. We're not at a great spot as it is as far as our physicality. We're down a few players, we can't do the same thing over and over again and expect to win ball games."
Game Summaries
Three Run Top of 4th Silences Bobcats
Jessica Mullins started in the circle for the Bobcats where she retired the first six batters she faced, with one strikeout.
It took the 'Cats until the second inning to get a hit, which was an
Anna Jones bunt. She'd advance on a
Karmyn Bass ground out, but after
Sydney Harvey and Kat Zarate struckout she got stranded on third.
Mullins gave up a single in the top of the third, but was able to strike out and force a ground out to get out of the inning scoreless.
The Bobcats were able to score a run on two outs in the bottom of the third. After
Bailee Welsh and
Megan Kelnar struckout,
Hannah Earls singled down the line. Trahan hit the RBI single up the middle to go up 1-0.
Kelnar would catch Texas Tech's Hamlin stealing in the top of the 4
th, followed by a ground out and a Mullins strikeout in the top of the 4
th.
No one scored in the 5
th with no hits, and both sides got hits in the 6
th, but no more runs were put on the board.
Texas Tech put up an RBI single in the top of the 7
th to tie the game. After that, Maddy Azua came in to pitch for Mullins. From there, a pair of errors and hits helped the Red Raiders go up 4-1 and come away with the win.
The Bobcats were able to get on base in the 7
th, but were unable to score and runs and finished trailing 4-1.
Tulsa Takes the Rematch
Maddy Azua started in the circle for the Bobcats where she fouled and grounded out the first three Golden Hurricanes.
From there, Trahan singled and advanced on the throw while Earls advanced to third. A Vanderford pop out, Jones strikeout, and Bass pop up would leave two runners on and keep the Bobcats off the board.
Both sides went three up, three down in the second and Azua struck three out in the top of the third. Trahan got a single in the bottom of the third, but couldn't score a run after Vanderford popped out.
The top of the 4
th was the Bobcats downfall after four hits gave up three runs to take a 4-0 lead. The Bobcats couldn't answer and to start the 5
th Tori McCann came in to pitch.
Hannah Earls hit a single that forced the Tulsa pitcher into an error to score
Sydney Harvey and pull one back for the Bobcats.
No one put anymore runs on the board despite Tulsa hitting a double in the top of the 7
th. After seven innings the 'Cats fell 3-1.
