TROY, Alabama – Texas State women's basketball suffered a 85-69 loss at Troy after a 30-point third quarter by the Trojans gave them an advantage heading to the final quarter of play.
Julia Coleman had a career night for the Bobcats, though. She earned her first career double-double going for a career-high tying 15 points and 10 rebounds. The freshman shot 6-10 from the field and knocked down three free throws for her stat line.
Tiffany Tullis and
Gara Beth Self also had double digits for the Bobcats with a season-high 15 points from Tullis and 11 from Self. Tullis also pulled down eight rebounds while Self went for three steals and an assist on the night.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Bobcats had the lead after the opening quarter after shooting 8-16 to start the game. Knocking down 19 points while the Trojans had just 16, the Bobcats were able to limit the Trojans on their home floor. Troy shot just 5-20 in the first. Coleman led the way early on with four points and four rebounds in five minutes of play in the opening quarter.
Troy found some momentum in the second quarter as they improved to 9-15 shooting, while limiting the Bobcats to 6-13.
Tiffany Tullis was able to knock down five points in the second as the 'Cats tried to keep things close heading into the halftime break. Despite being outscored 21-16, the Bobcats went into halftime just trailing by two.
Troy's Ja'Mia Hollings came alive in the third quarter. She had a 13-point quarter with five rebounds as she led the Trojans to a 30-point quarter. While the Trojans shot 10-16, the Bobcats were struggling to hit their shots and shot just 3-14. The 'Cats were limited to just 12 points in the third and pulled down just eight rebounds.
The Bobcats rallied well in the fourth, outscoring the Trojans 22-18 and winning their second quarter of the game, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit suffered in the third. Self and Coleman went for six points while Tullis went for eight to cap off the night. Despite season-high performances from the three, the Bobcats suffered the 85-69 loss.
