SAN MARCOS, Texas – The week concludes for Texas State (6-3) with a big matchup against Rice (7-2) on Sunday in Strahan Arena. Being the second game of a doubleheader, tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's contest.

Entering Sunday, the Bobcats are on a four-game winning streak after beating Arlington Baptist on Wednesday. Other victories during the streak have come against Princeton, Ohio and Texas Southern. Wednesday's win also extended TXST's home winning streak to nine games, the longest since a 10-game victory streak from Feb 5 to Dec. 31, 2021.
Kaden Gumbs leads the team in scoring (15.2), made field goals (50), field goal attempts (102), assists (36) and steals (16). The sophomore is second on the team and in the Sun Belt Conference with an 86.5% mark at the free throw line.
Both
Tyrel Morgan (12.1 ppg, 6.4 rpg) and
Tylan Pope (12.9 ppg, 6.7 rpg) are putting up over 12 points and six rebounds a contest.
Joshua O'Garro shares the team leading in rebounding (6.7 rpg) with Pope while also scoring 11.1 ppg and pacing the conference with a 90.9% at the charity stripe.
Drue Drinnon leads the team in three-point shooting (51.7%) having gone 15-for-29 from beyond the arc. Adding to the long-distance shooting threat is
Coleton Benson, who returned on Wednesday after missing the first eight games of the season due to an injury. The junior scored 11 points in his season debut while going 3-for-6 on three-point attempts.
About Rice
The Owls enter having won its last two games, both of which came in Nassau, Bahamas against Arkansas State and Iona as part of the Nassau Championship. They opened the tournament with a five-point overtime loss to Hofstra. When playing away from Tudor Fieldhouse, Rice is 4-2 with a 2-0 record in true road games with win being over Houston Christian (61-58) and Louisiana (83-61).
Leading the team in scoring (14.8), made field goals (42), field goal attempts (89), free throw percentage (73.2) and assists (36) is Trae Broadnax. The only other player with a double-digit scoring average is Kellen Amos at 10.9 ppg.
Caden Powell is close to putting up a double-double a contest at 9.6 ppg and 8.0 rpg. He is also making a team-high 60.0% of his shots. Both Alem Huesinovic and Denver Anglin have made double-digit three-pointers with 19 and 16, respectively.
Series History
Rice holds a slim lead in the all-time series at 7-6. The Owls won the last meeting between the programs on Dec. 4, 2022 in San Marcos by a score of 83-71. Prior to that contest, Texas State had won three straight in the series including two on the road.
When hosting Rice, the Bobcats are 1-3 all-time in San Marcos. The lone win was a 74-60 game on Nov. 28, 2018 behind a 25-point performance form Nijal Pearson.
