Bobcats Extend Winning Streak to Four Games

SAN MARCOS, Texas – All 10 players that suited up for the Texas State (6-3) on Wednesday night scored in the team's 97-49 victory over Arlington Baptist (1-8) in Strahan Arena.

Recording his second double-double of the season was Tylan Pope, who finished with 14 points and a season-high 11 rebounds. Seven of his boards came on the offensive glass and accounted for a third of the Bobcats' total.

Austin Green led all players with a career-high 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting and going 5-for-8 at the free throw line. Joshua O'Garro netted 14 points behind two three-pointers while grabbing five rebounds, handing out two assists and recording two steals.

Making his season debut was Coleton Benson, who scored 11 points in 11 minutes off the bench. The junior went 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.

Both Kaden Gumbs and Tyrel Morgan finished with nine points each and the due of Bessanty Saragba and Christian Turner netted eight points apiece. Finishing with seven points on the evening was Jaylen Jones after going 3-for-5 from the field.

Although he only scored two points, Drue Drinnon handed out nine assists and had two steals. His assist total is the most by a TXST player since Marlin Davis had 11 at Louisiana on Jan. 1, 2021.

Overall, the Bobcats were 35-for-64 (54.7%) from the field and made 6-of-14 (42.9%) three-point attempts. They also outrebounded the Patrios 43-24 and forced the visitors to turn the ball over 25 times.

A tight contest saw Texas State use a 10-0 run to take a double-digit lead at 17-5. After Arlington Baptist got within nine following a layup, Green scored three straight points to put the Bobcats back up by double-digits for good.

Three minutes into the second half saw the Bobcats leading 57-33. Pope converted a layup that started a 24-0 run over the next 8:52. During that stretch, Benson made his debut and knocked down three consecutive three-pointers. Capping off the scoring stretch was an old-fashion three-point play by Jones.

Next up for TXST is a meeting with Rice on Sunday as part of a doubleheader with the women's team. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's contest.
