SAN MARCOS, Texas –  Texas State outside hitter Samantha Wunsch was named AVCA All-Region out of the Southwest Region this season, the lone Bobcat to attain that accolade. 

This is the first All-Region selection of her career for Wunsch. She is also first Bobcat to earn the accolade since Emily DeWalt and Janell Fitzgerald were named All-Southwest Region in 2022. Texas State has 13 prior AVCA All-Region nominees in program history.
 
The award honors volleyball student-athletes from the various AVCA regions, with Texas State being in the Southwest Region. AVCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated student-athletes and voted for the teams. All awarded student-athletes now become eligible for the 2024 AVCA Division I All-America squads.
 
Wunsch was a First Team All-Conference selection in the Sun Belt for the Bobcats this season and was named to the SBC All-Tournament team after the Bobcats Championship run. She was a two-time SBC Player of the Week as well. Wunsch's 3.74 kills per set was among the best in the Sun Belt as she averaged 4.20 points per set this year. She swung effectively at .301 this season and was heavily involved both offensively and defensively for the Bobcats. She was one of the team's best hitters while contributing heavily to the Bobcats 2.48 blocks per set, tallying 0.95 blocks per set in conference.
 
Texas State finished its 2024 season with a 22-9 record after a Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship. The Bobcats made also a first-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season.
