CONWAY, South Carolina — Texas State volleyball finished its road trip to Conway with its 11
th sweep of the season over Coastal Carolina.
MJ McCurdy continued her impressive weekend with 17 kills in just three sets tonight. That, paired with 43 assists from
Ryann Torres helped the Bobcats to a team attack percentage of .257 and 52 kills on the night in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set one started off in the Bobcats favor with Texas State taking a lead early in the set and not relinquishing it. The Bobcats pushed their lead to as many as six in the latter half of the set as they went on to win set one 25-21. McCurdy led both sides in the first set with six kills, but
Samantha Wunsch and
Maggie Walsh each paired on five. Texas State hit .340 in the first set with 20 kills on 50 attempts.
Set two involved more back and forth between the two sides as they matched points most the way through. Neither side had more than a two-point lead the entire way, until the Bobcats pulled away by three to win 25-22. The Bobcats continued to attack with 18 kills in the second, while the Bobcats defense held Coastal Carolina to just 11 kills. Texas State won set two 25-18.
The third set was a less effective attack for the Bobcats, but they were still able to get the set win to complete the sweep. Despite counting eight attack errors themselves, the Bobcats limited Coastal to just nine kills and forced eight errors. That, paired with out-digging the Chanticleers 19-15, helped the Bobcats get a 25-18 win in set three.
Texas State is now 17-8 on the season with an 11-3 record in Sun Belt play. The Bobcats will maintain the No. 2 seed in the West Division in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
