NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference offices announced Tuesday morning that Texas State setter Ryann Torres and libero Alyssa Ortega were named Setter and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
 
This is Torres' second conference honor of the season, and Ortega's first. This is the first time this season that two Bobcats have won a weekly award in the same week. Texas State has now won six conference awards this season, with two setter, two defensive and two offensive awards.
 
Torres played a key role in the Bobcats back-to-back sweeps over Southern Miss to earn her award as she tallied a Sun Belt Conference-best 13.50 assists per set, averaged 3.0 digs per set and added 9 kills of her own behind a .636 hitting percentage. En route to reaching her 2,000 assist milestone this weekend, she was the only Sun Belt setter who had more than 65 assists in less than 7 sets, which she eclipsed by nearly 20 assists. Torres set the Bobcats to a team attack percentage of .332 this weekend, which was also amongst the best in the conference. The Bobcats, under the assistance of Torres, averaged 16.83 kills per set this weekend, which was the most of any Sun Belt school. She also had the most assists in the conference for a three set match with 43 against Southern Miss.

Ortega was dominant defensively for the Bobcats this weekend as she boasted conference-best average of 7.67 digs per set through six sets for the Bobcats. Her 46 digs was the most by any player in the Sun Belt this week. Both matches this week Ortega put up 23 digs which was the most by a player in a three-set match. She was a key part in limiting the Southern Miss offense to a conference-low .095 attack percentage and just 57 kills this weekend. Additionally, Ortega led the Bobcats to their conference-best 21.83 digs per set this week. Her contributions helped limit the Golden Eagles to less than 20 points in all but one of the six sets against the Bobcats this week.

The Bobcats are on the road this weekend at Coastal Carolina as they look to fight for the Sun Belt Regular Season Championship. The matches are on November 8 and 9 at 5 pm and 1 pm (CT). Both matches can be streamed on ESPN+.
