SAN MARCOS, Texas — For the second time in two days, the Bobcats tallied 50+ kills in a three-set match to sweep the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. With a team attack percentage of .350, the Bobcats continue their four-game win streak through the end of Sun Belt Divisional Play.
Â
Maggie Walsh led with 13 kills tonight for the Bobcats while
Ryann Torres tallied 38 assists on the night. That paired with another 23 dig night from
Alyssa Ortega helped the Bobcats out-kill, assist, block and dig in a complete team-performance in the series sweep.
Â
WHAT HEAD COACH SEAN HUIET SAID:Â "Another 3-0 sweep against a really good team. I'm really excited with how we played. I liked that we maintained the level of play that we played last night. We challenged them with that. We know we're getting to the end of our season, and we want to be playing our best in November and we know in a couple weeks we're going to need to string three days in a row. So to see that we could do that two days in a row gets me pretty fired up for the end of the season.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Texas State may have given up the first point in set one, but from there it was all Bobcats. The team went on a run spearheaded by
Ryann Torres' serving to go up 8-3 early on in the set. From there, a eight-serve run by
Maggie Walsh that included three-straight kills by MJ McCurdy was enough to put a 11 point gap between the two sides. From there, the Bobcats coasted to the end of the set with a 25-11 win. Texas State limited Southern Miss to just eight kills in the first set, while the Bobcats tallied 18 with just one error for a .459 attack percentage.
Â
The Bobcats serve was a big part of the match the entire way through, but a serving run by
Alyssa Clark in the second set was a big part of it. She served seven straight times to take the Bobcats from tied 3-3 to up 9-4. Highlighting that run was two kills by Walsh and
Bailey Hanner with a kill and a block assist. From there, the Bobcats held that lead for the rest of the set, taking set two 25-18. Again, the Bobcats limited the Golden Eagle offense, allowing them just nine kills and forcing them to hit -.023.
Â
The third set was much closer, with the Bobcats finding themselves down at the first media timeout after an MJ McCurdy service error. After the media timeout, though, Texas State adjusted and their offense came alive. Again, highlighted by an
Alyssa Clark serve run, Texas State was able to find their way back ahead of the Golden Eagles. Clark went three-straight aces to put the Bobcats up 20-16. After that, the Bobcats were able to finish on a 5-3 run for a 25-19 win in set three.

This was the Bobcats 10th win in three sets of the season. The team is now 15-8 on the season with an 9-3 record in Sun Belt play, sitting in third place of the Western Division.
