Volleyball Celebrates Senior Night with Sweep vs James Madison

SAN MARCOS, Texas — Texas State volleyball finished its regular season in familiar fashion: with a sweep. For its 19th win of the season, the Bobcats tallied their 12th three-set win of the year over the Dukes.

As part of a Senior Night Sendoff, the Bobcats hit effectively with a team percentage of .323, highlighted by 17 kills from Sam Wunsch and 10 from MJ McCurdy. 5th year setter Ryann Torres tallied 31 kills in three sets of work.

WHAT HEAD COACH SEAN HUIET SAID: "Very proud today. I thought that was a very good win for us. I thought that we came out and were the aggressor tonight. I'm just really proud. I thought [MJ McCurdy and Sam Wunsch] had a heck of a night. We sent our seniors out on a win and I'm glad we did that tonight."

HOW IT HAPPENED:
At the stat of the match, it was back and forth between the two sides. It was a run by the Bobcats after tying the game 10-10 that separated them from the Dukes. A serve run by Bailey Hanner that started with an ace, followed by a pair of attack errors, pushed the Bobcats out to a 14-10 lead. From there, the Bobcats continued to separate themselves and extended their lead all the way to 10 through the end of the set. Sam Wunsch tallied six kills in the opening set to lead both teams.

Through the second set, the Bobcats went up early and never relinquished the lead. A 6-0 start with a serve run by Torres helped the Bobcats get out to the fast start. Despite an early timeout from the Dukes, Texas State went up 8-2. From there the Bobcats just continued to role as they tallied four aces as a team and swung .462 with 14 kills on 26 attempts. Eight kills from Wunsch pushed the Bobcats to a 25-11 win in set two.

JMU started set three out well, putting pressure on the Bobcats with a 6-1 start to the set. Despite that, though, the Bobcats rebounded well. They went on a run to draw the match level at 14, and didn't let up. A 7-1 run off McCurdy's serves pushed the Bobcats out to a 21-15 lead. The Bobcats capitalized on Duke errors, and ended the match with their 10th service ace of the game.

The Bobcats took the match in three sets to improve to a 19-8 record this season, going 13-3 in conference play.
