Volleyball Back at Home vs Southern Miss

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State returns home this weekend for two matches versus Southern Miss on Nov. 1 and 2. The Nov. 1 match will start at 6 pm, with the Nov. 2 match at 2 pm.
 
This match will be part of the Bobcats 'Community Weekend' where the team will welcome back local camp attendees and volleyball players to Strahan Arena. Additionally, it's faculty and staff appreciation weekend for Texas State employees.
 
About Texas State
The Bobcats enter the week with a 7-3 record in Sun Belt play coming off two wins over ULM. Texas State is currently third in the West Division of the Sun Belt standings. 
 
Wunsch leads the Bobcats this season with 274 kills, followed by freshman MJ McCurdy with 207. Those two lead the offense while Alyssa Ortega and Jade Defraeye handle the defense. Ortega is leading with 295 digs while Defraeye has 87.0 blocks. 
 
Head coach Sean Huiet is in his fifth year in charge of the program and boasts a 108-46 record in his career with a 62-12 record in Sun Belt play. Huiet recently won his 100th career game over Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on Sept. 20.
 
About Southern Miss
Southern Miss comes into Strahan Arena as the fourth seed in the West Division of the Sun Belt Standings with a 5-5 record in conference play and a 9-13 record this season. They are coming off a split series with Old Dominion.
 
Leading the attack for the Golden Eagles is Sadie McAda who has 279 kills, and Aysu Dalogullari with 249. The attack is being set by Franky Panunzio who has 516 assists this season. Their block is led by Torrey Tkach with 107.0 blocks. Sunni Sheppard leads with 433 digs.

Southern Miss is led by 3rd year head coach Jenny Hazelwood who has a 42-41 record in her time at the helm of the Golden Eagles.
 
Series History
Texas State leads the all-time series 4-0. These two teams faced off for the first time in the 2022 season when Southern Miss joined the Sun Belt Conference, and the Bobcats have won all three meetings between the two sides.
