MONROE, Louisiana — Texas State volleyball got its 8
th sweep of the season on Saturday afternoon versus ULM. The Bobcats finished the series sweep of ULM and improved to 7-3 in conference play.
Highlighting the night was a near-perfect outing from
Samantha Wunsch, who tallied 18 kills on 27 attempts with a .630 attack percentage, the highest of any Bobcat this season. Additionally, MJ McCurdy tallied a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs on the night, the third double-double of her career.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Texas State started the night off with an exclamation mark, limiting ULM to less than 10 points. While the team hit .542 in the first set, Wunsch swung 6-0-7 and McCurdy for 4-0-4 to total 16 of the Bobcats 10 kills. That, paired with forcing the Warhawks to hit -.037 was enough for the Bobcats to earn their largest set-win of the season. The Bobcats at one point led the set by 16, winning 21-5 heading into the final few points of the set.
Set two was much more even between the two sides. With six tied scores and two lead changes, the Bobcats had to battle for the entire set to get the win. Despite 15 kills in the second set too, ULM was more effective in their attack with 12 kills of their own. Despite holding just a two-point lead at set point, Wunsch was cool under pressure for the final kill of the night.
The Bobcats pushed through set three effectively, swinging .455 while holding ULM to just seven kills with seven errors for a .000 attack percentage. Texas State tallied 16 kills, including nine from Wunsch, without a single attack error. While
Ryann Torres continued her efficient night with 14 assists, she helped the Bobcats to the 25-12 win in set three.
This was the Bobcats 8
th win in three sets of the season. The team is now 13-8 on the season with a 7-3 record in Sun Belt play, sitting in third place of the Western Division.
