Volleyball is Home for Series with Troy

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State volleyball will have its home opener inside Strahan Arena on Oct. 4 in the first of two matches with the Troy Trojans this weekend. The Oct. 4 match will be at 6 pm and the Oct. 5 match will be at 2 pm. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
This opening weekend is part of Texas State's 'Show 'Em State' weekend which will include feature a DJ appearance from DJ Aarrooo as well as fans are encouraged to wear maroon. There will be a pregame ceremony to honor head coach Sean Huiet for his 100th career win, Alyssa Ortega for her 1000th career dig, and Ryann Torres for her 1,500th career assist.
 
About Texas State
The Bobcats enter the week having finished non-conference play with a 6-5 record with wins over Oregon State, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, UTRGV, Texas Southern, Houston Christian and UTSA. The 'Cats started the season with 13 consecutive road games, coming to an end with two matches in Louisiana where the team got off to a 2-0 start in Sun Belt play.
 
After a great weekend in Lafayette, Ryann Torres enters the week as Sun Belt Setter of the Week. She is one of two Bobcats to be honored with Sun Belt weekly award honors after Sam Wunsch was named Offensive Player of the Week in the final week of non-conference play.
 
Wunsch leads the Bobcats this season with 163 kills, followed by freshman MJ McCurdy. Those two lead the offense while Alyssa Ortega and Jade Defraeye handle the defense. Ortega is leading with 184 digs while Defraeye has 53.0 blocks. 
 
About Troy
The Trojans come into the weekend on a two-game win streak after winning both their games in the opening week of conference play versus South Alabama. 
 
Leading the attack for the Trojans is Tori Hester who has 204 kills, and Amiah Butler with 157. The attack is being set by Janelle Stuempfig who has 234 assists on the season. Their block is led by Sydney Austin with 32.0 kills and Butler with 26.0.

Troy is led by 8th year head coach Josh Lauer who has a 114-104 record in his time at the helm of the Trojans.
 
Series History
Texas State leads the all-time series 19-0. Last season the Bobcats won both meetings in 2023 between these two sides 3-1. Texas State has never lost to the Trojans both at home and on the road.
