Opening Statement…
Obviously, a huge win for us versus a really quality opponent, conference game. Thought we really played well and clean in all 3 phases. Obviously, there's things you always gotta clean up, it's never as good as you think after you watch the film. But just super proud of the guys and the coaches, man, we had a great plan in all 3 areas. There's a quality team, and I thought the crowd was awesome tonight. That was really fun to see. We're a really good football team. You can see that each and every time we play.
On Jordan McCloud's decision making…
It's everything. The decision making. He just has to play point guard and look at the receivers that touch the ball. We got a lot of weapons and a lot of running backs that can run the ball. He just has to deliver the ball and make sound decisions. He's playing at a super high level and man just really excited for him.
On this season's game plan vs. Arkansas State…
We had a really good plan. We really did. I mean, we grinded our butts off and had put together a really good plan that the defense played disciplined. That they were gap sound. So it's just one of those games on defense when we communicate and we do exactly what we are coached to do.
Jordan Polk
Coming into this game after last season's loss to A-State…
Definitely, because I watched that game last year, and it just wasn't us. When we watched that film throughout the whole week, we knew what goal we had in mind. It was to shut them out. Really didn't want them to score anything, but no touchdowns? We know how the game is going to go if you don't get into the endzone.
On the limited penalties…
Inside the locker room, personal accountability is the main ingredient, the focus, the discipline, on and off the field, it has to be a key point. From meetings to schoolwork to just how you live your everyday life to the football field, because all of that translates to the football field
On his thoughts after getting a sack…
I had to get back lined up. This is the next play. You know what I'm saying it's just this game. We have to focus on not getting too caught up in the emotional side of things.
Ismail Mahdi
On the feeling of getting back into rhythm…
Yeah sure did. It really did feel good to get out there and get into my rhythm. Actually you know you can feel it out and drive it down the field. It felt real good to get all the boys involved.
Why his play was different today…
I think the game plan was really good. They put us in the right positions to make plays and you know we had a chip on our shoulders. We didn't do much the last couple games (the running backs) and the coach emphasized that. We're a special group, we've got a lot of talented guys but we just needed to get over that hump and make some plays.
On the atmosphere…
Yeah the fans do it, they do a really good job. We have really diehard fans, like sickos as y'all say. And we love it, you know, they really get us hype when we go out there. That's what we dream of since we're little high schoolers.
