SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State volleyball heads back out on the road for two matches at South Alabama. The matches will be on Oct. 11 at 6 pm and Oct. 12 at 1 pm. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
About Texas State
The Bobcats enter the week with a 4-0 record in Sun Belt play after two matches with both Louisiana and Troy. The Bobcats finished non-conference play with a 6-5 record with wins over Oregon State, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, UTRGV, Texas Southern, Houston Christian and UTSA. The 'Cats started the season with 13 consecutive road games where the team went 8-5.
After a great weekend in Strahan Arena,
Jade Defraeye enters the week as Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week. She is one of three Bobcats to be honored with Sun Belt weekly award honors after Sam Wunsch was named Offensive Player of the Week in week 4, and
Ryann Torres was named Setter of the Week in Week 5.
Wunsch leads the Bobcats this season with 190 kills, followed by freshman MJ McCurdy with 155. Those two lead the offense while
Alyssa Ortega and
Jade Defraeye handle the defense. Ortega is leading with 211 digs while Defraeye has 65.0 blocks.
About South Alabama
The Jaguars come into the weekend on a two-game win streak after winning both their games versus ULM in week two of conference action.
Leading the attack for the Jaguars is Abryanna Cannon who has 151 kills, and Sarah Gooch with 109. The attack is being set by Anna Loberg who has 446 assists on the season. Their block is led by Lillie Simons with 45.0 blocks. Briana Wilson leads with 197 digs.
South Alabama is led by 4th year head coach Jesse Ortiz who has a 71-37 record in his time at the helm of the Jaguars.
Series History
Texas State leads the all-time series 15-5. Last season the Bobcats won both meetings in between these two sides, going 3-0 and 3-1. The Bobcats have won four of the last five meetings between these two sides. Texas State is also 4-4 all-time in Mobile.
