ATLANTA – Texas State suffered its first road conference loss of the season after falling 64-55 to Georgia State on Saturday afternoon.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
With Texas State shooting just 2-11 and Georgia State 3-12, the opening quarter was a low scoring affair and ended 11-5. The scoring improved after the opening quarter, though, and this was the lowest scoring quarter of the game, with both sides scoring 12+ points each quarter the rest of the game.
Through the rest of the first half the Bobcats battled back, bringing things within three points at the break. The late-first half attack was led by
Tiffany Tullis and
Jaylin Foster who had nine points combined and were working defensively to limit the Panthers shooting to 4-12 in the second quarter.
The third quarter was the best shooting of the Bobcats night. With
Gara Beth Self shooting 3-3 for eight points, leading the team to a 17-point quarter, they were able to take draw things equal early in the quarter. But in the second half of the quarter Georgia State went on a run, scoring 20 points and taking a 49-37 lead headed into the final quarter.
Texas State outscored Georgia State 18-15 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit from the third and the Panthers came away with a 64-55 win. Despite the Bobcats shooting 45.2% in the second half and
Ja'Niah Henson's team-high 18 points, the Bobcats suffered a loss on the day.
