Men’s Basketball Back on the Road to Face Trojans

SAN MARCOS, Texas – This week, the Texas State men's basketball team (7-12, 1-6 Sun Belt) is back on the road for two games. First up is a trip to Alabama to take on Troy (11-8, 5-2 Sun Belt) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. from the Trojan Arena.

About Texas State
The Bobcats dropped both games last weekend at home with the latest being a seven-point setback to Arkansas State. Jordan Mason led the team that night with 21 points to match his career high. Also getting into double-figures was Kaden Gumbs and Brandon Love with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
 
Mason paces the team offensively at 13.6 points per game and with a 75.9 free throw percentage. He is second on the team with 46 assists and 17 steals. Love has been a force down low putting up 11.4 ppg while grabbing 5.7 rebounds a contest and blocked 37 shots, the third most in the Sun Belt Conference.
 
Gumbs has scored at least 10 points in three straight games and in four of his last five to increase his scoring average to 10.4. The freshman is dishing out 3.8 assists per game to rank fourth in the conference.
 
Both Coleton Benson and Dyland Dawson are netting 8.9 ppg. Dawson has connected on a team leading 30 three-pointers and Benson is second with 18 made treys while shooting at a 47.4% clip.
 
About Troy
Last weekend saw the Trojans go on the road and drop contests to South Alabama and Southern Miss by a combined four points. They have been nearly unbeatable at home this season with a 10-1 record including victories in all four Sun Belt games. The lone loss came against Sam Houston (88-86) back on Nov. 20.
 
Christyon Eugene leads Troy in scoring (15.6), rebounding (5.3), three-point shooting (43.8), made three-pointers (39), free throw percentage (84.7) and assists (72). Tayton Conerway and Aamer Muhammad are contributing 11.5 and 10.0 ppg, respectively, with Conerway pacing the squad with 33 steals and a 49.0 FG%.
 
As a team, the Trojans are second in the conference in scoring at 79.9 ppg. They rank third in the league limiting opponents to 69.5 ppg with the 10.4 ppg margin being the third best.
 
All-Time Series vs. Trojans
Texas State holds a slim 9-8 lead in the all-time series. Last season saw Troy win both meetings and have now won four of the last five.
 
The Bobcats' last win in the series was a 66-61 contest on the road on Feb. 25, 2022. They are 4-3 all-time when facing Troy on the road. Prior to last season's loss, TXST had won three straight in the Trojan Arena.
