Men’s Hoops Hosts Louisiana for Black Out Bash

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team (7-10, 1-4 Sun Belt) is back home and hosting Louisiana (9-8, 2-3 Sun Belt) on Wednesday at Strahan Arena for a 7 p.m. tip. It will be a Black Out game with the first 600+ fans will receive a black TXST and there will be an in-game "black out" party with light sticks and balloons for fans.
 
Prior to the contest there will be an autograph session with select members of the football and volleyball teams. Fans will also be offered several photo opportunities including a photo with the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl trophy. Cake and cupcakes are going to be available for free while supplies last and there will be a raffle of bowl game and volleyball items with the winners announced at halftime following the programs' recognitions.
 
Fans can catch the action on ESPN+ and on the Varsity Sports Network with Clint Shields on the call. Live stats will also be available to follow.
 
About Texas State
The Bobcats snapped a five-game losing streak with a 13-point win at ULM on Saturday. Jordan Mason led the way with 16 points while both Coleton Benson and Kaden Gumbs added 15 and 10 points, respectively. TXST shot 54.5% on three-pointers against the Warhawks. It was the highest percentage in a game since making 60.0% at Troy on Feb. 25, 2022.
 
Mason enters the game scoring a team-high 13.1 points per game and pacing the team at the free throw line (74.4%). Both he and Gumbs are dishing out a team-high 3.9 assists a contest. Brandon Love is putting up 11.5 ppg while grabbing 5.9 rebounds per game. His 36 blocks are the second most in the Sun Belt Conference.
 
Benson enters putting up 11.1 ppg while leading the team in scoring during conference play at 13.8. He has netted at least 15 points in four of the five conference games while shooting 62.5% from the field and 57.7% (15-for-26) from beyond the arc, all while coming off the bench.
 
Just shy of averaging double-digits offensively are Dyland Dawson (9.3) and Gumbs (9.9), who paces the team with 17 steals.
 
About Louisiana
The Ragin' Cajuns have won two of their last three games with the most recent contest being an 84-77 victory at Arkansas State on Saturday. It was just the team's second true road win this season with the first being at Rice on Dec. 22. Thursday is also the third of four consecutive road games for Louisiana.
 
Kobe Julien leads the Sun Belt in scoring at 17.6 ppg while shooting 45.7% from the field, 38.1% on three-pointers and 83.1% at the charity stripe. He is also grabbing 4.1 rpg, recorded 21 steals and blocked 13 shots. Themus Fulks enters netting 11.1 ppg and dishing out 4.6 apg.
 
Coming in just shy of averaging a double-double is Joe Charles at 10.5 ppg and 9.4 rpg while pacing the squad with 30 steals and 26 shots. Hosana Kitenge (10.2 ppg) leads the team with 56.5 FG%. A team-high 38 made three-pointers have been recorded by Kentrell Garnett.
 
All-Time Series vs. Ragin' Cajuns
Louisiana leads the all-time series 19-7. The last four meetings and six of the last eight were won by the Cajuns. Texas State's last win in the series was an 82-73 contest on Feb. 10, 2022 on the road.
 
The Bobcats are 4-7 all-time when hosting Louisiana in San Marcos. The last time they defeated the Cajuns in Strahan Arena was on Jan. 15, 2022 by a score of 72-68.
