MONROE, La. –Â
Ja'Niah Henson lead the Bobcats with 21 points as the Bobcats attempt to rally back from a first-half deficit fell short at ULM. After being down 17 at the half, the Bobcats won the third and fourth quarter in the comeback attempt, despite falling 73-63 in the end.
Â
Henson's outing of 21 points was a highlight of the Bobcats night. The fifth year shot 3-7 from beyond the arc on her way to the double-digit night. She went a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line, which improves her season percentage to 92.4 (61-66).Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Warhawks got out to a quick start, with the threes falling for them early on. After a 10-21 first quarter that included four three-point attempts, the Bobcats were trailing 25-13 early on. After ending the quarter on a 5-0 run, though, the Bobcats regained some momentum heading into the second.
Henson led the Bobcats in the second quarter with eight points, going 2-3 from the field with three free throws. Tullis took advantage from the free-throw line going 4-4 in the second quarter to help the Bobcats to a 19-point second quarter. At the halftime break the Bobcats trailed 49-32 with work to do in the second half.
The Bobcats came out of the halftime break well, though, despite having a deficit to overcome. Texas State out-shot and out-rebounded the Warhawks in the third quarter, scoring 15 with 11 rebounds in the quarter. Henson lead the quarter again with five points while
Gara Beth Self and
Morgan Hill had four apiece.
In the fourth the 'Cats once again outscored the Warhawks, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit from early on. Despite the 16 point quarter, the Bobcats fell 73-63 in the end.
WHAT HEAD COACH ZENARAE ANTOINE SAID:Â "We talked a lot about our first and third quarter starts as a group and unfortunately, we let our start get away from us. We kept chipping away and trying to fought our way back. We had a great response out of halftime, really proud of that effort, we ran out of time unfortunately. We will bounce back and learn from this road trip as we continue to get better as we go through conference play."
