This week features men's basketball returning to Strahan Arena for two games and softball opening up its 2023 season at home with the Texas State Tournament Friday through Sunday. Also at home, women's golf is hosting the Texas State Invitational at Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle Monday and Tuesday to open the spring of its schedule, and tennis will play its 2023 home opener against Tarleton State on Saturday. Meanwhile, women's basketball is tied for second in conference standings and will be on the road for two games this week. Indoor track and field will compete at two meets to close out their indoor regular season.

After losing a pair of games on the road, Texas State men's basketball (11-14, 4-8 Sun Belt) returns home for two contests against Arkansas State and Old Dominion. The Bobcats 20-game winning streak in the month of February, which was the longest in the nation, was snapped last week in an 82-63 loss by a hot-shooting Louisiana team. Men's basketball's three-game road swing ended with a 68-64 loss against Troy. The Bobcats nearly overcame a 21-point deficit but fell short despite 11 points by Mason Harrell in the second half. This week, Texas State welcomes Arkansas State (10-15, 2-10 Sun Belt) to San Marcos for an Equality and Inclusion Awareness game as well as a Black Out promotion featuring a shirt giveaway. This will be their second meeting of the season. On Jan. 12, Texas State defeated the Red Wolves 61-58 the Red Wolves in Jonesboro. The Bobcats will face Old Dominion (14-10, 6-6 Sun Belt) for the first time in program history with a Black History Month Celebration and Equality and Inclusion game on Saturday. Old Dominion, one of the newest members of the Sun Belt, is tied for fourth in the conference standings with Troy and App State.

Women's basketball (16-7, 8-4 Sun Belt) split its pair of homes games last week against Troy and ULM. After a narrow loss to the Sun Belt's first-place team last Thursday, the Bobcats responded with a thorough defensive effort to beat ULM, 74-56, on Saturday. A Thursday matchup awaits Texas State and Southern Miss (15-8, 8-4 Sun Belt) for the second time this season. The last meeting between the two saw the Bobcats walk away with a 62-52 overtime win in San Marcos. The Lady Eagles and Bobcats are in a five-way tie for second in the conference. After the matchup in Hattiesburg, the Bobcats will trek to West Virginia for a contest at Marshall on Saturday.

Women's golf will open its spring season by hosting the Texas State Invitational Feb. 6-7 at the Plum Creek Golf Club in Kyle. The Bobcats concluded their fall schedule at the Hurricane Invitational with a finish just outside the top-10. Junior Marine Griffaut shot three-under and finished tied for eighth, her highest finish of the season. Junior Matilda Cederholm and mid-year enrollee Rozlyn Rooke will be making their first appearance of this season for the Bobcats in its home tournament. At the 2022 Texas State Invitational, the Bobcats finished seventh in a field of 14.

Softball opens its 2023 season at home with the Texas State Tournament at Bobcat Softball Stadium. On Friday, the Bobcats will play a doubleheader against Wichita State and Kent State and then on Saturday, another doubleheader awaits against Kent State and Villanova. Texas State closes out the tournament on Sunday with a noon contest against Wichita State. The Bobcats were nearly unanimous in being picked second in the preseason coaches poll last week. Jessica Mullins was named the 2023 Sun Belt Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Sara Vanderford and Ciara Trahan were tabbed as Preseason All-Sun Belt selections alongside Mullins.

Tennis (1-2) came up short in its 4-3 loss at UIW, their lone match over the weekend. Emily Niers and Mae McCutcheon picked up their first singles match win of the season, while Kate Malazonia and McCutcheon got their first doubles win. Andrea Pineda also won her singles match against the Cardinals. On Saturday the Bobcats will have their home opener against Tarleton State at 1 p.m. and will travel to UTSA on Sunday for a matchup with the Roadrunners.

Track and field continued to break records at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic last week. Daniel Harold set a record, for the second time, in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 7.75 on the final day. Sedrickia Wynn set her third school record when she ran 23.50 in the women's 200, which was the third-fastest in the field. On the men's side, Dominick Yancy ran 20.58 in the 200 to surpass the previous school-best held by himself and Bervensky Pierre. Mathilde Canet finished third in the pentathlon with 3,832 points, second-most in school history, and setting a PR in shot put (10.50 meters). Track and field will close out its indoor regular season with two meets this weekend: the Howie Ryan Invitational in Houston and the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
