This Week at Texas State: February 20, 2023

Track and Field is set to compete at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships the beginning of this week. Baseball will host Oral Roberts and softball is hosting the TXST Classic tournament. Women's basketball plays its final two games on the road while men's basketball will conclude their regular season in Strahan Arena with Mental Health Awareness Day Thursday and Senior Day on Saturday. Soccer is hosting two games as part of their spring schedule and tennis will have one match at home this weekend. Women's golf is on the road in Las Vegas for The Show.

Baseball opened the 2023 season with a series sweep against Northwestern. The Bobcats set program records for runs in an opening day series and overall series with 56 and home runs in a game with eight. Texas State clinched the series Saturday with a 20-5 victory with nine starter and 11 total Bobcats ending with a hit. This week the Bobcats will have a three-game series against Oral Roberts.

Men's basketball will see its final two games inside Strahan Arena this season when the face South Alabama for Mental Health Awareness Day and Southern Miss Friday for Senior Day. Texas State is looking to avenge a 67-58 loss to Southern Miss earlier this season. Last week the Bobcats fell 75-82 at App State and found a 78-75 win on the road against Coastal Carolina where Mason Harrell led all players with 22 points.

Soccer continues its spring schedule by hosting both Midwestern State at 2 p.m. and St. Mary's at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

Starting Thursday Texas State softball will be hosting its third straight tournament, the TXST Classic, where they will be playing UTSA, UTA, Kansas, and Colorado State. At the I-35 tourney the Bobcats were 3-2 on the weekend including a 9-0 run-rule win over Lamar and a 9-1 win over South Dakota State.

Indoor Track and Field will be competing at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships Monday and Tuesday. Dominick Yancy and Sedrickia Wynn were named the conference's Track Athletes of the Week for back-to-back weeks. At the Tyson Invitational Yancy broke the school record in the men's indoor 400 meter by running 46.41. Wynn has run the five fastest times in program history in the women's 60 meter dash, six of the seven fastest in the women's 60 meter hurdles, and two of the three fastest in the women's 200 meter.

Women's basketball had a close 54-58 loss to James Madison but bounced back with a 77-57 win against South Alabama on Graduate day. In the home finale against the Jaguars, Kennedy Taylor became the Sun Belt Conference's all-time career assists record holder and finished the game with 11 assists. This week the Bobcats wrap up the regular season on the road at Louisiana and Arkansas State.

Women's golf is competing at The Show in Las Vegas Feb. 27-28 at the Spanish Trail Country Club. This is the first time the Bobcats have traveled in the spring season after hosting and winning the Texas State Invitational with a 34-stroke lead. Mattingly Palmer enters the tournament after getting her first Sun Belt Women's Golfer of the Week award and winning her first career individual championship.

Tennis split their pair of weekend matches with a 5-2 loss against UTRGV and a 6-1 win versus SFA. The Bobcats dropped the doubles point against SFA but came back by sweeping the singles matches to put them back in the win column. This weekend the Bobcats will have one match as they welcome Northwestern State for a Sunday matchup at 11 a.m.
